it does have that "mellow, mature" vibe to it in places. but it’s not the "flat flute of champagne" vibe of without a sound, it’s a huge step up from it. I’d say "see ya" is the closest to without a sound ya get on here
and nobody will kill ya for not digging idwgt or imagination blind. we’re a respective community… at least I got that feeling during my pretty short (thus far… hope yez won’t mind if I hang around a bit?) stay here
May 29, 2009 at 11:54 am #135085I couldn’t help myself, and downloaded the album from soulseek last night. I’m getting the album as soon as it comes out, but when it comes to Dinosaur/J theres no way I could wait. If I die before June 22nd, at least I’ll have heard the album.
The album is awesome. It does seem mellower in a Free So Free/ Without a Sound sort of way, with a litle Beyond mixed in. Its the type of album you can put on and just listen the whole way through. ‘Friends’, which sounded like the weakest of the samples to me, even has some cool guitar parts. ‘Said the People’ is proably my favorite on the album, followed by ‘Plans’. I loved Beyond (which was my 2nd favorite Dino album after YLAOM), but I think Farm is much better.
I could go on babbling about how great the album is, but my poor writing skills just don’t do the album justice.
Any questions, let me know.May 29, 2009 at 11:59 am #135086"Rumpy" wrote:it does have that "mellow, mature" vibe to it in places. but it’s not the "flat flute of champagne" vibe of without a sound, it’s a huge step up from it. The mellow songs on Farm sort of flow and build like Free So Free.
May 29, 2009 at 12:32 pm #135087Tom, you found it on soulseek???!!! I searched this morning and couldn’t find it. Lucky you!
May 29, 2009 at 12:44 pm #135088dude omg om gomg omg omg
not on there
dammit
omg omg omg omg!!!
EDIT: someone please put me out of my misery, soulseek’s gonna kill me for all the failed searches in a sec…
May 29, 2009 at 12:59 pm #135089The guy I got it from on soulseek should be on there tonight. I had been searching soulseek every day the past month. Searching for Imagination Blind is how I found it.
I didn’t put Farm in my shared folder online. I have mixed feelings about downloading/file sharing. I love to be able to get rare stuff/live shows, but still think people should support the artists buy buying cds, going to concerts, and buying merch.

EDIT: forgot to mention – "tonight" for you means "not long before dawn" for europe. I’m from europe. :/
May 30, 2009 at 12:41 pm #135091the albums pretty killer. higher highs and lower lows than beyond though lyrically.
May 30, 2009 at 1:42 pm #135092So not fair. I am super jealous!
May 30, 2009 at 1:46 pm #135093the album slays. I didn’t overanalyze the lyrics, but "I don’t wanna go there" is indeed a bit too far on the lazy side. the music is absolutely killer though – every song has something special in there, it’s vital to the album as a whole… it’s an ALBUM, not a collection of songs, something an alarming percent of modern records lack (a few singles + filler. woo -_-‘). it’s a focused, flowing unit. every song is perfectly placed, and essential (yes, even the initially questionable "your weather" grew on me after a few listens, and "friends" turned out to be decent too). also, J solos magically. he keeps growing as a guitarist… I love Farm.
yes, there is a sense of mellowness in the music throughout Farm. of mature, mellow melancholy. but this is so much better than Without a Sound or Free So Free (my two least favorite J-related albums)… I can’t explain the phenomenon…
anyway, about this – maybe let’s try to keep this an insider affair for now, passing on mp3s to trusted people and do our best to avoid causing a major spread. for now, diditleak doesn’t know of this. I can’t find it anywhere online either. those dedicated enough will get it, and that’s the main point – the most passionate fans, who’ll purchase the album anyway when it comes out, will get to hear it and ease their anxiety. let’s keep it away from p2p and file hosting sites…
and a big fat thank you to tom for snatching it. I can’t express my gratitude enough… I’ll start writing a review for sputnikmusic eventually, maybe I’ll post it here before tossing it on the site of choice for you guys to feedback it?

It’s my least favorite Dino album, but I think "See You’ is a good mellow J song. I love the last minute of it.
I do agree, the album has a mature feel to it. Not that I think their other stuff is immature. Your right,It’s hard to explain.
Farm is my second favorite Dino album. Great stuff.
May 30, 2009 at 3:15 pm #135095I can’t believe I never mentioned the obvious Without a Soundness of "see you"… I had that thought in the back of my head since the very first sample *slaps head* it’s a bit like "we’re not alone", except more Without a Soundish…
Without a Sound is okay, it’s just too contentless for its own good (J’s attempt to top charts? who knows)… it’s a decent record, but the worst Dinosaur Jr outing…
Farm keeps growing on me. I was all ZOMG at it after samples. it’s only gotten more impressive. it’s my favorite Dinosaur Jr record, and my favorite record overall. I can’t get myself to stop listening to it. when I stop listening to it, and put on some new Buckethead (something that would usually keep me all too occupied), all I can think of all Buckethead album long is putting Farm back on.
May 30, 2009 at 3:17 pm #135096How did you guys get it! IM FREAKING OUT! Did you pay for this soulseek software or what? Anyway someone can send it to me…THE 22ND IS TOO FAR KNOWING YOU GUYS HAVE IT.
