Is this anyone else’s favorite Dino song? Killer bassline, mang.
July 18, 2007 at 5:38 am #130790quest and severed lips are two of my faves. I don’t think I ever heard them on cd, they’re still new to me.
July 18, 2007 at 7:07 am #130791Yeah it`s a great song.One of the best on the debut.
July 18, 2007 at 11:45 am #130792Quest has always been one of my favorite songs. I wish they’d play it more.
The chords and the lyrics are awesome. "I love the caterpillars munching on the leaves, pitter patter makes me forget my disease, bugs have feelers just like me, and I’m feeling oh so lonely".

July 19, 2007 at 12:05 am #130793yeah out of 20+ dinosaur reunion shows i only saw quest at one show and that was buffalo new york last summer (06′) and it was fucking awesome.
never heard them on cd deepsludge? do you not own dinosaur, the cd?
July 19, 2007 at 12:28 am #130794No, I never bought it on cd or cassette. I didn’t even know it existed until I found freakscene. (I don’t recall it being on the SST tapelist)
Believe it or not, that release and Without A Sound are very similar to me.

dinosaur is fucking awesome. without a sound on the other hand… i like a few tracks.. the only J release i never fully got into.
but the first dinosaur lp. christ if you like quest and severed lips listen to the whole thing. i mean have you seen them live since the reunion start? if so then you know most of the album right there.

Yeah, I think Leper’s a great song too. I only know it and Does It Float from the BBC Sessions. Was and Dino are weak compared…
I have heard the album, and I think it has low points on Gargoyle, bulbs of passion, and cats in a bowl. Yeah, I saw them live and remembered all the songs (I had mp3s). I lost them. They sounded great live.
Hey SG, I knew there had to be a reason it wasn’t listed on the SST flyers that came with cassettes. Later on, did SST release it on their label?
July 19, 2007 at 1:34 pm #130798gargoyle, bulbs and cats in a bowl are amazing songs.
esspecially gargoyle one of the best dinosaur songs hands down. greatest opener ever.
dinosaur in my opinion is in no way on the level of without a sound. its a great album, but they were growing and the dude who recorded it just didnt know what he was doing and didnt know j’s vision.
great album though, greeat! haha.
July 19, 2007 at 3:55 pm #130799They’re good they just amount to less than the rest of the songs.
The bass line is awesome, and the lyrics are wonderous and disturbing, and the guitar is perfect on Quest.
I just compare WAS and Dinosaur because they are the ones least listened to, not because they share any traits. The production on WAS is way more poppy distorshy, but it is Sire/Warner record. The Dinosaur album sounds fine too as far as production goes. I just think some of the riffs and guitar lines are juvenile (not that I am a mature myself). For a debut, it sets foward the clock and matches and beats any other debut I’ve heard, so I’m surely NOT dissing Dinosaur’s self titled.
Quest and severed lips, man. Those are some real songs, but do they remind ya too much of the 80’s movie River’s Edge? No not me.
July 19, 2007 at 4:30 pm #130800im not sure but i dont think ive ever listened to without a sound all the way through..theres probably some songs on there ive never heard before
July 19, 2007 at 4:42 pm #130801I don’t remember what pointless sounds like, and sadly remember what Outta Hand sounds like.
July 19, 2007 at 4:54 pm #130802there must be something wrong with Without a Sound..
I think I know why people get tired of it so fast.. It might be something about all songs seems to be in the same key.. I have thought about that many a times since I got the album.. Ever since I got the album way back, I wouldn’t listen to it as much as expected.July 19, 2007 at 5:18 pm #130803I think Dinosaur is near flawless. I can’t really think of anything wrong with it. In my non biased opinion, every song on their is amazing, and has something special.
A lot of people shit on Cats in a Bowl, but I love that song, especially the bridge. A lot of people dislike Pointless but I like it actually.
Regarding Without a Sound, that album is very underrated. It might be my second favorite post-Lou album behind Green Mind. Songs like Grab It, Even You, I Don’t Think So, Over Your Shoulder, and a few others are some of my favorite songs from J. On the contrary, I don’t really like Hand It Over at all aside from a few songs.
Back to the topic, I can’t believe I forgot to mention the Quest bass line. That’s genius right there.
Also regarding the topic, does anybody here like the different arrangement of Quest live more than the studio version? Where the bass goes for a few seconds before J enters?
