Re-issues vs. Originals

I like vinyl better too.I even did a 19 page essay in high school on it .Though vinyl around here costs more than cd`s and you feel like you`re wearing down something you paid so much for.Since my reciever died I can`t vinyl anymore since the sound is too low

Has anyone purchased the Japanese imports with the bonus tracks yet? I still haven’t got around to purchasing the reissues. I figure at some point I’ll just get the imports

I think the reissue of "Dinosaur" in particular sounds way better. Definetly worth getting. They even "remastered" the art work. The cover painting looks a lot better

I always like the way YLAOM sounded, old and new. A lot of people seem to think it has bad production???

YLAOM sounds like it was recorded in someone`s basement,which is cool with me but yeah I guess some folks would`nt like that kind of production.

That’s the best part about the re-issues is that it still has that lo-fi sound.

Finally bought the Dinosaur and YLAOM reissues this weekend. I must say they do sound amazingly better, especially Dinosaur. My ears are still ringing from the drive into work today due to the volume I can now blast them and still have them sound good.

I think the YLAOM remaster actually sounds worse the original CD, which is a shame.

It sounds less clear and much more fatiguing on the ears.

didn’t they record YLAOM so that everything was peaking–so it all sounds kinda distorted and fuzzy

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re right.

It’s just…I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is, it just sounds kinda "not so good".

Murph’s drums in particular seem more muffled on the re-issue, that might be one problem.

They sound bad — thin and crappy. SST cds are a disgrace, sonically speaking. The remasters restore the depth and texture from the original master tapes that got lost on the original cds. Then again, I’m not sure how many people really notice since it seems that fewer and fewer people listen to music on real stereos these days. If you listen to music primarily with ear buds or on a cheap minisystem you probably wouldn’t detect loads of difference between the originals and the remasters, aside from the fact that the original cds are much quieter.

I gotta agree with Tubby. Dinosaur & YLAOM sound so much better than their respective previous releases. Sonically its night and day, or apples and oranges as they say. I’m going to buy the Bug reissue soon just because I think it (the original) sounds bad compared to the remastered discs (Dinosaur & YLAOM).

Do it. Of the three, the Bug remaster marks the greatest improvement in sound quality. It sounds totally monstrous, and all the little details shine through like never before.

Yeah i would expect them to sound like that–usually remasters just sound fuller than the originals.
