What’s really going on here? As of lately, Robert has been trying very hard to make everyone know that he’s immensely keen on Pavement, a beloved rock band to many of us, but isn’t he trying just a little bit too hard to get that message through? Doesn’t it seem like he’s just trying to convince himself that he NEEDS to love Pavement? Indeed, isn’t there an internal struggle of wanting so much to like this band passionately, whereas deep down he truly feels that their music and lyrics are nothing more than shallow supercilious attempts of being "cool", in sharp contrast to the sincerity of the in-your-face bad ass rock’n’roll of Turbonegro?
Now let’s call the bluff of our Norwegian friend. Let’s set him free of the demons that hold him back from being true to himself and his loved ones. Let’s let Robert be Robert again.
I`ll talk Pavement…
I heard Box Elder in `93 and loved it.I did`nt hear much else until Crooked Rain came out which I did`nt like that much at first.Over time I started liking those songs more and got the album in June `94.A few weeks later I got Slanted And Enchanted.So I spent that summer listening to both records alot.I got Westing a few days after Xmas that year.
Wowee Zowee came out in April `95 which I bought the week it was released.I can`t say all of it is great but there`s some ok tunes.Brighten The Corners was better.I never did get Twilight Terror but probably should.He’s a fan of Petter Solberg

I had a lot of initial problems with terror twilight as well. There are some great songs, but there’s something allmost frustrating with the album that I can’t quite put my finger on. That said, some of the songs really shine in a new light when heard live since the band playes them a lot more ragged and twisted than on the album.I should`ve mentioned I also have the Major Leagues ep
with those cool Echo And The Bunnymen and Fall covers

"Here’s the thing with Pavement, all the albums are clearly from the same band, but they’re also completely different. So it’s like you have your friend, and all your friends of that friend.
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is my friend. That album is like a favorite pair of jeans or an old pair of Chuck Taylors. Every curve and turn is familiar. I know the importance of screaming along when Stephen Malkmus says "No BIG HAIR!" I know the whole goddamned album, it never surprises, it’s always every bit as good.
So Terror Twighlight is the smarter, quieter,older friend of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Slanted and Enchanted is the spazzy kid who hangs out with them. Brighten the Corners menwhile is the more outgoing, jokester who you don’t know quite as well.
Yes, I’m being 100% serious here. "and westing by musket and sextant is their brilliant halfbrother who spends half his time in a mental institution, the rest of the time he creates the most bizarre and beatiful magic in the world.
I think your relationship towards crooked rain crooked rain is the same as I’ve got with slanted, which is by far my favorite pavement record. the album is as perfect as you can get. and the bsides are great enough to make up a whole album of perfect songs.
