      from j mascis.com :

      Quote:
J will also be playing 3 shows in Austin, TX for the 2004 SXSW Music Conference. The first show is Friday March 19th at Threadgills HQ at 301 W. Riverside Dr. this show is a benefit for Roky Erickson ($15 suggested donation). The show runs from 1:30-4:30PM, J will be on around 2:30.

does anyone know what the deal was w/this ? why does roky erickson need a benefit show ?

I think the story behind this is somewhat complicated, but this is how I understand it:
some, or all, of his prior labels has really done him wrong and neglected to pay him roaylties because of his mental condition. So there’s been set up a trust fund to help him out.
As I said, very complicated story, but that’s how I understand it.

That`s what I heard too. He`s schizophrenic and he has multiple tv`s in house on all day to drown out the voices in his head, very sad :( he lives on welfare and gets no royalties off his albums.

oh right, that sounds pretty bad … + i guess he doesn’t have the money or the presence of mind to sue for the wrongs done to him by the record companies …
