Hi Salamiguy,
I while back you mentioned Dusk at Cubist Castle as Beatles esque. Can you tell me a little more about this? Are they a guitar band?

I’m worried that ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ style may just mean hippy toss… does it?

check out http://www.southern.com for loads of info’s on US indie bands…Discord records is also linked with this site…it’s good and there’s loads of alternative Spiderland cover photos in the Slint section.

Hopefully you`ll like Dusk At Cubist Castle;I was talking to Jeremiah about it awhile ago,he`s into it too.
The Olivia Tremor Control is part of a collective of bands called the Elephant six.Other bands include the Apples In Stereo,Neutral Milk Hotel, and Elf Power.
You might want to check out Neutral Milk Hotel;I don`t have their"On Avery Island" album but I heard it`s pretty amazing,Jeff Tweedy From Wilco said it sounds like a lo fi Kinks.I have the 2nd NMH album-"Aeroplane Over The Sea" which is great,it`s kinda like psychadelic folk music, like Syd Barrett but with a indie rock influence, worth checking out.

Hey guys (esp. Salamiguy),

Shall I check Double Nickels by the Minutemen?
What is the deal with this band? As good as Pavement? ha ha… seriously, are they good?

Thanks.

Double Nickels by the Minitemen is worth checking out.I heard that in REM`s early days that they used to cover Minitemen songs.
Our own Eggwater loves that album,I think it`s his all time fav.

You have seen the light!
Candy apple grey is a great album,I like all the songs on it,I think Grant Hart especially wrote some of his best songs ever for that album.

"Double nickels on the dime" is one of the all-time classics, you should check it out!. Shame that the cd doesn’t have all the songs of the original vinyl version…

Hi,

I tell you what, I listened to candy apple grey again last night and I have to apologise! it’s great! I really really enjoyed it. I just think I hadn’t listened enough. husker du have a distinct style that just grows on you loads when you get it.
Aw shucks… thanks for showing me the light!

Yeah I’ve ordered Double Nickels. I’m looking forward to hearing it. Is it pretty intense, hardcore punk?
Any J connection?

What do you think to Fugazi’s ‘Red Medicine’? I love that one personally. Is Minor Threat and Fugazi essentially the same band?

Since den buck answered your Minitemen question,I`ll answer your Fugazi one.
Red Medicine is my 2nd fav Fugazi album,13 songs is my fav, check that one out.
Fugazi`s Ian Mackaye was in Minor Threat,2 other guys were in Rites Of Spring, and the bassist was a roadie for Rites or Minor T.

I wouldn’t describe it as hardcore punk, poetic punk-funk-jazz would describe it better I think…
Mike Watt (one of the nicest & greatest people in music) was one of the Minutemen, and as you might know he was playing bass (and keeping a diary) with J. and the Fog during their tours last year (and contributing some Iggy & the Stooges stuff as well…)

Do you like Isn’t Anything by MBV? I know a lot of people have mentioned Loveless but I haven’t heard that.

13 Songs sounds good. Are Big Black worth hearing as well?
