"So, according to a KPTV newscast, a Simpsons fan with too much time on his hands grafted a tobacco plant and a tomato plant and, ta-da: tomacco! Leaves and most likely the fruit (yes, tomato is a fruit technically) contain nicotine. Delicious AND deadly!" Simpsonschannel.com has a small news piece on the breakthrough, but in a Frink-like move, although scientists have found "nicotine in the leaves", it turns out "the lab hasn’t tested if the actual tomato has nicotine in it yet, but they say it probably does."
if nothing else, Trav (Antipop) will get a kick out of it

My two favorites, The Simpsons and Grafting, in the flesh!!!!!
How very weird indeed. Today at work, my boss and I were discussing how various Simpsons characters are based on other characters from real life and earlier cartoons. I was telling him that there was a Simpson episode where the creators reveal who some of the Simpsons characters are based on, but I couldn’t remember which epsiode it was. I get home this evening, and that particular episode is on TV. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?
And now I come here and discover someone has actually done this graft…too cool!!!
Even weirder…I spent some time grafting several winters ago for a family friend whilst my shoulder was broken and I was out of work. 3 years later and my travels have brought me back to that very same greenhouse with full time employment and I will be grafting some very exotic and extremely rare evergreens once again this winter!!!!!
Maybe I’ll sit down and see if I can start a tomacco plant of my own!!!!
November 10, 2003 at 8:26 pm #96988I tried huffing Chloroform after watching a simpsons episode where Homer was knocking people out with it. Boredom and T.V. will make you do stupid things.
