a panel of vh1 executivesrecently listed Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit as the best song in the last 25 years… :P :?

Not that the braintrust at vh1’s list matters in any way, no doubt based on all kinds of ratings/money they’ve made & hope to make having people watch the five days of the countdown   Kinda pleasing to see Nirvana on top of the list over whitney houston… :? Strange list, strange idea & nope I’m not gonna watch the shows, but if I hear/read the phrase grunge anthem one more time I may scream :P

Nirvana song named best of past 25 years
Wednesday, June 11, 2003 Posted: 2:25 AM EDT (0625 GMT)

NEW YORK (AP) — Here they are now, entertaining us — or at least entertaining VH1, which named Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit" the greatest song of the past quarter-century.

The Seattle band’s groundbreaking grunge anthem is No. 1 on VH1’s list of the "100 Greatest Songs of the Past 25 Years."

The whole countdown will air over five nights, starting at 10 p.m. EDT Monday on the video music channel. The series will feature clips of videos and performances by the artists along with interviews from musicians and celebrities discussing why the songs matter.

Of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan said: "That was really a breakthrough for a great scene that had been going on for a long time up in Seattle. And it was kind of another victory, I think, for a misunderstood music, you know. The dam broke when ‘Teen Spirit’ came out."

While no one performer or group dominated the countdown, which was chosen by a panel of VH1 executives, several had two songs featured.

Michael Jackson had the second-highest song, "Billie Jean," and was at No. 40 with "Beat It." Eminem reached No. 4 with "Lose Yourself," while his "My Name Is" was No. 85. Madonna’s "Like a Virgin" was No. 10 and her "Ray of Light" was No. 100.

Rounding out the top 10 were "Sweet Child O’ Mine" by Guns N’ Roses, "One" by U2, "Walk This Way" by Run-D.M.C., "When Doves Cry" by Prince, "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police.

In May 2001, VH1 picked the 100 greatest videos of all time; Jackson’s "Thriller," a 17-minute mini-movie, was No. 1, but it didn’t even make the list this time.

smells like teen spirit is definatly not the best….. if it had to be nirvana, it could have at least been "somthing in the way"…. but anyway, i’m all for making our own list….. if we’re gonna do it, my 2 songs are "Never-ending math equation" by modest mouse and "all about the pentiums" by wierd al yankovic(or however you spell it, that song is pure genius-"you’re about as useful as JPEGS to Helen Keller"

exactly :? its sad how many people havnt been introduced to good music. i used to try to play bands for some of my friends, who are basically fad-listeners, but it really didnt get to them, of course. my sister(who listens to stuff like 50cent, Dixie Chicks, and…AVRIL :x  ) likes Dinosaur Jr.’s guitar playing, but she says it simply as "he cant sing!!!". To me, J wasnt about singing good. he sounds like a human being sounds when he isnt trying to sound like anything he has heard before, and i think its the bored-sounding, sometimes sour singing that got me hooked on Dinosaur Jr. modest mouse is basically the same deal for most people i know, the voice. Most of the people i play them to find it amusing at the most… people should take advantage of the fact that there is variety in the world, and enjoy it while its still there… my list should be done soon…. 8)

Have we done a best albums of all time list.

We should make a thread of our personal favorite albums and then compile our lists. Placement depends on how the person rated it and how many votes it go.

Say an album was number 40 out of 50 in my list that gets a rating of say 2 points (someone come up with a ratio system) and then if someone else rates it number 1 then it gets 10 points giving it 12 points.

Sounds complicated but we have a lot of person power

the list isn’t 100% innaccurate, except putting Nelly, Missy Elliot, and Eminem (my 3 least favorite "artists" of all time) on the list makes it completely inaccurate.

okay, i got a system for the album thread

#1 on your list is worth 100 points
                                #2 is worth 99 points
                                ..
                                #100 is worth 1 point

therefore your list can have as many albums on it as you want up to 100

you can nominate up to 100 albums. We start one thread to gather the lists and another (or keep editing a post) to get the total.
