…are growing some seriously stanky danky in their apartment.

I really don’t care, what they do in their place is their business.

However, their bathroom exhaust fan use the same exhaust vent my bathroom fan does. Everytime the turn their fan on (which is all the time) to ventilate their crop, they blow the smell into my place.

It smells like some really good stuff. Many moons ago, I probably would have asked them to share. But that was then, and this is now…

My major issue here, is that my apartment and everything in it is starting to smell like pot. I’m concerned people at work are going to start noticing. Then it will be off to a drug test for me…GREAT!

Will pot show up in your system just from breathing the plants on a regular basis? Or does it need to be ingested, i.e. smoking or eating it?

I talked to the people on the other side, they said it stinks in their place too.

It’s in the teens temp-wise, and their upstairs windows are always open. On a calm day, you can even smell it outside. They aren’t too bright…

I talked to the landlord, who said they can’t just accuse tenants of growing pot and their hands are tied. Lame.

Like I said, I really don’t care, minus the fact that my place stinks. I’d rather stay as far away from the situation as possible. But this is unacceptable.

Any ideas on what else I could to correct this situation?

well, id confront them about it and exlplain your situation.

and if they dont stop call the cops. haha. hate to sound like that but, if you feel your job is in jeopardy i would take this seriously.

        good luck!

Pot or any drugs for that matter will not show up in your system unless you ingest them. Just breathing the "air’ that the plants are growing in can’t harm you.

I would only call the cops on someone if they were doing something harmful or dangerous to you or themselves.

That’s a decision for you to make….if I lived in an apartment building and the worse thing I had to contend with is some folks with a "green thumb," I would be pretty happy. An apartment building brings you very close to many different folks, hemp seems to me to be a pretty peaceful substance. Produces a fairly peaceful vibe. I mean think of all the people that are on antidepressants, and other doctor prescribed mood altering drugs! Those things can make people very unstable.

Let them know you can smell it…….perhaps they should tone down their operation, if it’s that’s stinky, so you would be helping yourself with the smell and them from getting into "real" trouble.
It’s always win/win to find the most loving and kind solution for any problem. Involving the police in anyones life sucks, so you should really be sure that they are very deserving of that interference.

Once again, allow me to re-itterate my position.

The fact that these guys are growing weed isn’t my issue. In fact, I’m all for the decriminalization/legalization of controlled substances. The fact that my entire apartment is SATURATED with the smell of marijuana IS my issue. By venting their crop into MY apartment, they have involved me in something I want no part of.

On top of that, I know for a fact the landlord has already "mentioned" something to them about the maintenance guy having smelled it. So for them to blatantly disregard that "tip", shows just how stupid and inconsiderate they are.

To quote a modest mouse song, "these walls are paper thin and everyone hears every single sound". So far, I have heard these guys talk about their extensive drug use and selling, going to jail, assaulting people, smacking bitches up, avoiding paying child support, etc. In all likelyhood, they are probably packing heat. On top of that, one guy shows up 1-2x per week and brings his 10 year old son in, so they are exposing minors to illegal activity.

"Mentioning" something to them is really out of the question unless I plan on getting shot in the face or feeling repercussions whenever these dumb asses get busted. Who’s the first person they’ll think of? Once again, I want this situation resolved in a manner that is beneficial to everyone and keeps me as removed from it as possible.

These aren’t your laid back hippie stoners looking to avoid high pot prices on the street by supplementing with their own crop. And based on the degree of the smell, this isn’t a plant or two, this is a fool fledged grow-op.

I appreciate the "people with a green thumb" attitude, but you have to realize my place stinks to high hell. I’m not just catching a whiff of the occasional bong rip or two. I am smelling this crap 24×7. I have to open my windows and doors multiple times a day to clear out the smell which then returns and engulfs my place 5 minutes later. So invariably, they are also costing me money as I am now paying extra on bills to heat the great outdoors.

What about my right to peacefully enjoy my apartment without contending with this bullcrap? I’m starting to have headaches from the odor it is so strong and overwhelming.

Also, if they are using high output lighting, which they probably are, then there is serious potential for a fire. And what if they are spraying insecticide, fungicide, or a varitey of other hazardous materials to care for their crop (which they probably are)? Yep, they’re blowing that crud into my place which now means my personal health is at risk.

I’m glad people want to think "it’s just a little pot", but that clearly isn’t the case in this situation.

im all for growing your own but if someone had a problem such as your own i would be respectful of their request and fix it especially since its illegal.Getting the cops involved would be the last thing I would want to do but since they don’t sound too friendly I can see how this is giving you a headache. What about putting some kind or air freshener type of thing in your vent? Probably not a great suggestion but I did a quick search on the internet and found this http://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/8410-odor-removing-machine.html
Sorry if im no help but I hope that you can somehow peacefully fix this problem with your neighbors.

Dude, call the cops. This is clearly a nuisance and you’ve already tried all the humane ways of dealing with it. Plus, these guys sound like assholes, so you shouldn’t have any serious dents in your conscience about getting them busted. They’re committing pretty serious crimes, especially if they’re involving kids.

Your only other option, really, is to move out, right? Is it overall a shitty neighborhood? If so, maybe relocating would be better in the long run? Even if you move, though, you should still report this. You have an opportunity to move criminals out of your neighborhood! I’d be all over that!

                Luck,

I see the board still logs me out….

Multiple neighbors talked with the landlord again and expressed our concerns and right to peacefully enjoy our residences. The landlord talked with the renter and offered them the option of breaking the lease with no repercussions providing they leave quickly and quitely. A u-haul truck showed up in the middle of the night and they were gone the next day.

I moved out of dumpville and bought a house 4 weeks later.

I think everyone won. All the neighbors don’t have to deal with a full fledged grow-op anymore. The landlord lost a month of rent, but also got rid of some really bad tenants, and that event finally prompted me to get a real place.

                      Good enough?

Interestingly enough, I moved into a house where my neighbor has two pitbulls that he allows to roam the neighborhood unwatched. Tell me, should I intervene now?

Would you all like to hear this story? It’s quite amusing…

I know what you’re beginning to think…old man Kurticus, always having a problem with his neighbors…

Maybe it’s me, not them, yes?

That’s really not the case. I only have a problem once my neighbors decide to be inconsiderate and force me into their business. I didn’t care about the grow-op until they vented it into my apartment. I didn’t care about my neighbor’s pit bulls until he kept letting them defecate in my yard, or when I left my screen door open as guests were over and found his dogs in my house. Oh, and the one evening when I stepped onto my patio and his doq was sitting there and decided to square up on me, growling, teeth showing.

Goodness gracious me, the force runs stronger within me than I thought !
First I manage to…well, that isn’t important, the pivotal point here is that I demanded you returned with an explanation and you did.
I’m going to be telepathically demanding all sorts of stuff from now on !

Congratulations on owning a house ! And getting rid of the herbalife crew without resorting to ending up with a gun shot wound. You’ve got some skills.
As for the pitbulls. I’m a firm beliver that a dog, no matter the breed, will be a kind and good dog if it is raised up in a kind and good family. BUT, when it comes to pitbulls I’ve seen too many incidents to be fully convinced. So I would’ve talked to the owners and said that you don’t appreciate them defacating in your garden, and that you have no interest in unsuspecting visits from them.
That, and have a 4 feet long 2×4 on the patio because if those guys decide they can take you out, they will try.
Oh and like the badger, their jaws lock when they bite, if it comes to that you need to lift them by their hind legs and twist the dog like a cork screw to get it to let go.

I’m glad to see you back here Kurticus !

Radiator Free Kurticus, I’m sorry that you have bad neighbors. Especially the reckless ones with the pitbulls. And I completely agree with Robert on the good, kind nature of animals raised in good, kind families but it certainly seems that the people who go out and buy pitbulls as pets aren’t the kind that want it as the family dog who fetches your slippers and slobbers on your face when you come into the door. Aren’t there leash laws enforced where you live? Not just for the safety of your person but for the safety of the dogs too.

Oh, and doesn’t the 4 in 2×4 stand for 4 foot?

It wasn’t invisble, I brought it back with my superpowers on the 29th of july.
                                I am that awesome.

I had no idea how to write leash, so thanks for taking care of that girl.

it actually stands for 2 inches x 4 inches.

No wonder every birdhouse I ever made turned out big enough to fit an ostrich!

Oh my! This reminds me of the time when someone brought up the huge shark that washed up on the beach not too long ago. He was saying how it weighed like 5,000 lbs and two of the girls said "No way!"
They thought that that was way too big and I started laughing and said that they were like two scientists who had no concept of proper weights and measures when they sat opposite eachother pretending that the space inbetween them was the shark.

And if anything Kurticus, be happy that you don’t have a weirdo like me as a neighbor.
