      Hopefully it’ll be a thrill to read…

      Shadows
Unlocking Their Secrets, from Plato to Our Time
      Written by Roberto Casati
      Science – History | Vintage | Trade Paperback | August 2004 | $13.00| 0-375-70711-5

      ABOUT THIS BOOK

In this original, wide-ranging, and endlessly thought-provoking work of popular nonfiction, a leading science writer uncovers the pervasive presence of shadows in our world.

For Plato, shadows were the symbol of our limitations. For Galileo, they knocked the Earth from the center of the cosmos. They are a source of fear and a symbol of ignorance, and they loom large in art and design, mythology and folklore, physics and metaphysics, and architecture and urban planning. From shadows puppets and the psychology of shadows to the role of shadows in astronomy and the influence of shadows on the architectural profiles of our cities, Roberto Casati awakens our fascination in this tour-de-force of investigation and imagination.

finally finished Ulysses. Quite fun. Each chapter was like a window into a crazynew world. Of the 18 chapters i think i understood for the most part 16 of them. Some are so out there i’ll probably be reading them again and again and still be lost. I can now try to tackle the literay critism i’ve collected on this powerful novel.

no idea what fiction will follow, but i bet it is short and sweet.

Ulysses eh, now you must move on to Finnegans Wake, have fun, I think of the first 17 pages i got maybe 3 sentences, and the only reason why i could follow a bit is because i know the storyline from the old irish folk song

I read Malcolm X biography by Alex Hailey. It was really interesting, he had many really good points on racism in the states. I think most of the racistic things are actual today as much as they were in the 50’s.

Now i’m readin John Steinbecks Sweet Thursday. The story is quite boring, but the characters are funny and interesting. :)

Hey I think I`ve owned those Spiderman and Superman comics there on the cover back in the `80s :)
I can tell by looking at them from what era they`re from. The Silver Surfer one looks 1970`s.Strange Tales is `60s,Batman looks early `60s or late `50s and Catwoman is very recent. The Spiderman is `60s too but I had the reprint from the `80s.

FUBAR’s Terry And Deaner Are Still Givin’er… In Book Form

                    By: ChartAttack.com Staff

                    Terry & The Deaner

Two years after FUBAR, the movie, Terry and Dean are still givin’er with the best of ’em and now they’ve got it in writing. Don’t worry, it’s easy-to-read writing, with pictures.

Last Friday, the boys took over Montreal’s Theatre Ste-Catherine, a new little venue located on what I like to call Ste-Catherine Street’s choda (or taint, or durf, whatever you wanna call it), the short stretch between the hooker strip and the gay village. Arriving well before the hosts, 50-or-so party people sat around drinking free Molson "Cold Shots" (6.5 per cent beer in skinny cans) and eating nachos, salsa and neon cheese while a Guns N’ Roses tape hissed and squealed in the background. On stage, a beaten-up couch and other tattered living room props really cemented the old-school house party vibe — the only thing missing was a bong and the bangers. Terry and Dean arrived eventually, in a hail of hoots and hollers, to shotgun some Cold Shots and share some wisdom.

That’s right, it was a banger book launch! Just Give’r: A Handguide by Terry and Dean, illustrated by Tom Bagley, is a cross between a self-help book and a lifestyle manual, offering practical tips on everything from "nailin’" (as well as nailin’ in a canoe) to hair ("grow a mane like a lion"), and throwing out philosophical nuggets like, "How long is a bender? How long is a piece of string? Depends who’s fuckin’ cuttin’ it."

With remarkably adequate oratory skills, Terry and Dean read selections from their "guide for life, love and the pursuit of givin’er," such as warning signs that you’re too wasted. Dean had to explain the hidden meaning of one of them, "You wore out your coffee grinder" (code for "You gotta take a break from the weed, guy"), which the audience was probably too wasted to catch the first time around.

I heard the fubar guys on cbc as well awhile back :) They picked a Thin Lizzy and ACDC song and chose the Auto Trader as their fave book :P They kinda remind me of the headbangers that I went to school with and used to get in discussions like…
‘Kiss would`nt suck anymore if they put on their makeup!’

‘Hendrix was`nt that great,he just brought in the heavy guitar but he was no Randy Rhoads’

I’m finally getting around to ‘Our Band Could Be Your Life.’ I’m trying to read it cover to cover but it’s really hard to refrain from reading the Dinosaur Jr. chapter first.

been spending quality library time over Emersons essays and Thoureau’s journal’s, finally decided to try fiction again and am about 20 pages into Dr. Sax by Jack Kerouac, but it isn’t catching fire for me yet, time will tell…
