August 28, 2007 at 10:31 am #81015I woke up with a craving for the Celia Cruz version of-Guantanamera
and God was it good when I got it!
Although listening to it gave me the desire to hang my laundry on the line put rum in the blender and invite a bunch of boys over for an impromptu party but it was only 9AM…………..so I just shook my head real hard and got over that train of thought.
I wanted to modify because this is such a classic song but if you don’t understand all of the Spanish, it begs for some translation because the lyrics are really interesting and unusual.
I am a truthful man
From where the palm tree grows
And before dying I want
To let out the verses of my soulMy verse is light green
And it is flaming red
My verse is a wounded stag
Who seeks refuge on the mountainI grow a white rose
In July just as in January
For the honest friend
Who gives me his open handWith the poor people of the earth
I want to cast my lot
The brook of the mountains
Gives me more pleasure than the seaYo soy un hombre sincero
