Apparently they didn’t even ask for permission from Radio Birdman to use that song…

MC5 recently signed on as a sponsor for levi’s, tons of venom being spewed by fans about them selling out etc. I’m all for them making money finally, they have some cool MC5 tshirts up on the European levi’s site, the White Panther one (minus the pot leaf
) I was thrilled to see them but horrified so see justin timberlake wearing one, I agree with the barman below that it’s probably product placement related versus anything else with jt

Cool article from 194bar.com
April 14, 2003 at 9:44 pm #82496they freakin’ had that Friends show on in the kitchen at work, and Jennifer Aniston was wearing an MC5 shirt.
Don’t quite know what to think about that one…
peace

April 15, 2003 at 8:36 am #82497you mean this picture…MC5 on Friends

Cool shirt, think it’s something like fifty five bucks US though

Kramer has a cool spin on the whole controversy of partnerships with corporations & interesting tshirt spottings…
Not to pleased with the barmans aggressive interview, but Kramer dealt with him in a very cool way…Kramer Responds
I’m all for bands making money, looking forward to the DVD of that show at the 100 club
April 15, 2003 at 2:54 pm #82498money for artists is a good thing.
money makes most things bad, but gosh darnit people need to eat.
I just hate when actors try to be cool, when they should be their characters on screen.
Those links are cool, thanks much

May 1, 2003 at 10:28 pm #82500will have to keep my eyes peeled and the ears on standby for details, but there’s a car commercial out right now that uses some Jon Spencer Blues Explosion…something from the ORANGE album…but can’t remember what song or commercial right now :slap:
May 19, 2003 at 10:50 pm #82501Some commercial came on tonight at work and it started with the opening to "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground. They never got past the guitar intro part, but it was enough to make me wish I was not listening to sit-com re-runs in a hot as all get out kitchen. I wanted to run home and grab that nico disc and properly listen to the song. I think it was a car commercial or something.
May 21, 2003 at 3:31 pm #82502Heard Who Are You by The Who in some car commercial the other nite, wasn’t performed by The Who.
Quite traumatized by some car company using a tv jingelized version of a horrifying meatloaf song…let me sleep on it, not sure of the whole name but thats a line thats repeated & repeated. No doubt to add to the trauma of hearing that song
May 28, 2003 at 9:53 pm #82503Blitzkrieg Bop in a go phone add. Thinks its at+t but I had a hard time paying any attention to the screen while rocking out
:aliensmile:May 29, 2003 at 1:52 pm #82504I just heard that commercial the other day, had the same effect on me
July 2, 2003 at 4:37 pm #82505Applebees are using the music from Suzy Q by CCR, the lyrics are changed to…
oh bbq
baby I love you
bbq
July 2, 2003 at 5:36 pm #82506Suzy Q was written and originally done by a rockabilly guy named Dale Hawkins I believe
BBQ I love You sorta sounds like a Shonen Knife lyric
July 3, 2003 at 4:06 am #82507Maybe thats how they got to change the lyrics, don’t know why that bothers me but it does

Would have preferred hearing Shonen Knife singing those lines, versus a generic applebees voice
August 14, 2003 at 3:58 pm #82508…a cableless likeaghost spotted both Madonna and Missy "Misdaminor" Elliot joining forces with the gap gang for a get into the groove commericial. But it was the Nissan mini-van ad that really raised my senses as Modest Mouses’ "Gravity Rides Everything" bounced it’s way to my antenna equiped television…

I am sitting here in my hotel room in Phoenix, where it is cooler (only 100F today) yet the weather is wicked!! Lightning and thunder like you never see anywhere else.. Impressive. Anyway, I digress…
I was watching Baseball Tonight on ESPN, and I hear some familiar chords coming from the T.V.. so I look away from the computer, and it is a mini van commercial with "Gravity Rides Everything" playing.. Oh my God!!! I can’t believe it..
"Moms have changed, shouldn’t your mini-van"
I am so conflicted. While in my younger days I would have bashed MM for being sell outs, not I am not so sure about the bashing. I mean, yeah, we all like to keep our little bands to ourselves, but why begrudge them when a company like Nissan (who has featured Smiths tunes for the Maxima) wants to use the song. Aren’t they just as entitled to sell what they create, if it is good enough? How else are they going to make a living?
Of course, how many people are going to know that is MM anyway????
