last night @ Spaceland.What can I say?
The gig was LOUDER than LOUD. HOTTER than HOT.
Hats off to the fools who lit a joint during the encore (they eventually passed it up to Lou, but he declined because it wasn’t the GOOD stuff).
Meeting Jack Black outside was just as cool as the gig, too.[/quote]
1. Why they gotta be fools?
2. Lou took a hit he just didn’t really want J to see him, cause I saw those fools hanging out with him later.
3. It sure smelled like GOOD stuff to me. Like humbolt.
4.Meeting Jack Black was as cool as the gig, are you on the GOOD stuff now.
5. While you were hanging with Jack Black I was chilling with Chloe, whats up biatch.April 18, 2005 at 6:10 am #108765I was at the show, I was the dude handing out the numbers for the line… yeesh.
Killer show, but don’t expect any video to surface. The three cameras there were filming for the band. I talked with their manager,
Bart, and he said they were going to do a DVD in the future, and wanted to have footage from this first show on it. He also said any other
show was cool to tape, but he just didn’t want anyone videotaping the Spaceland show because it was their first night and they wanted to use
it for the DVD.I should have done an audio recording, but thankfully someone seems to have done that already. I look forward to hearing this!
I arrived at the Spaceland at 3 am, woke up, checked out Ameoba, ate, and hung outside the club all friggin day pretty much, but it was all
worth it for that one hour sitting on the side of the stage blown away that I was actually seeing them play together…April 18, 2005 at 4:35 pm #108766"HASHTHRASH v3.0" wrote:don’t expect any video to surface. The three cameras there were filming for the band. I talked with their manager,

April 18, 2005 at 4:39 pm #108768Thats amazing news, something a lot of us have been hoping would happen for ages!!!
Pleasing news, thanks tons for letting us know…

April 18, 2005 at 5:49 pm #108769thank you for the set list! were you the one who jumped onstage to snag the set list next to the drums? j seemed really freaked out y’all crashing into the high hat stand.
yes, the show was epic! it was so gratifying hearing the old songs w/ Lou.
celebs in the house – Chloe Sevigny (who got Lou’s jack on ice), Christina Ricci, Adam Goldman, & Jack Black
i feel so fortunate to have witness the momentous occassion.
btw, the show was not loud (by Dino standards). i brought earplugs, but, pulled them out by the 2nd song.

I was standing right in front of J and just had to simply rip it off his monitor. Minimal effort-Maximum result. That’s the best way to go.
And, I’ll partially agree with you about the volume. It was super loud by any other band’s standards, but I’ve seen J be louder. I think he turned it down a notch because the size of the room is small and the PA could barely handle vocals being audible at all as it was…If that guitar had been any louder, it would have basically been an instrumental show.

1. Why they gotta be fools?*Uhh….as a HUGE stoner myself, it was meant as a term of endearment. Plus, any other rock club in LA (especially all those on the Sunset Strip)would’ve kicked them all out.
2. Lou took a hit he just didn’t really want J to see him, cause I saw those fools hanging out with him later.
*Then why did he make a sour face after he barely tasted it, and handed it back, nodding his head in a "No sir, I don’t like it" motion?
3. It sure smelled like GOOD stuff to me. Like humbolt.
*There are over 40 strains grown in Humbolt. It smelled like skunky shwag. Then again, we’re really spoiled here in LA when in comes to the quality of weed.
4.Meeting Jack Black was as cool as the gig, are you on the GOOD stuff now.
*Obviously you have no sense of humor.
5. While you were hanging with Jack Black I was chilling with Chloe, whats up biatch.
*Uhh……Chloe was standing in front of me, during the entire gig, rockin’ out grinding her ass into my crotch like a biatch.
Regardless, I’m glad all us fans were able to enjoy a wonderful show, with an AMAZING band. In addition, I too have been to many gigs where J’s guitar was/is WAY LOUDER, thus drowning out the entire band. Maybe it’s just me, but I hate when guitarists do that, it ruins the show, and makes me feel like I just paid good money to hang out at Guitar Center. So I was very pleased with the sound mix Saturday night. Granted the vocals could’ve been a little louder.
Do we also all agree that the opening band sucked ass?
April 18, 2005 at 11:44 pm #108772that was really funny guys

it’s a (well known?) fact that right up against the stage is the worst place to hear vocals

The Wives ripped, they played a killer set. The Supreme Dicks, though, ugh. At least the heckling was pretty entertaining.
April 19, 2005 at 1:44 am #108774i think the wives played a pretty awesome set….
hey jack fate, are you sure there are only over 40 strains of bud in humbolt?April 19, 2005 at 9:33 am #108775"bagal" wrote:thank you for the set list! were you the one who jumped onstage to snag the set list next to the drums? j seemed really freaked out y’all crashing into the high hat stand.yes, the show was epic! it was so gratifying hearing the old songs w/ Lou.

I didn’t see Christina Ricci. I tried to get Lou’s drink but Chloe wouldn’t let me.
April 19, 2005 at 9:38 am #108776I think you guys just don’t understand The Supreme Dicks. I think they’re great. Also, FYI, J used to be in that band for a while. A little western mass. info for ya.
April 20, 2005 at 5:53 am #108777what are they like?
what’s so good/bad about them?
April 20, 2005 at 11:29 am #108778They’re kinda like free-form indie pop with swirling guitars.
It was a 7 piece band…4 guitars (no bass), 1 slide guitar, 1 drummer and 1 idiot in a ski mask who made little electonic noises with a handheld box (which, half the time, wasn’t even on because the slide guitarist kept turning it off unbeknownst to the ski mask idiot as the sound was annoying him.)
Basically, I could hear some potential in the songs, but the band seemed terribly unprepared and honestly, mostly untalented on their instruments. There were painfully long measures of confused silence between songs as the 7 dudes tried to figure out what was going on. What song should we play next? Which one’s that again? Has our slide guitarist showed up yet? Is my amp on? Is my mic on?
For a crowd of people DYING for the reunion of DINOSAUR, a 45 minute opener who basically got through maybe 5 or 6 songs in that time who seemed totally unrehearsed and bored themselves was not very endearing to the audience.
And also, the slide guitarist got REALLY mad at a heckler who kept saying "STOP PLAYING! YOU ARE BAD!" The slide guitarist (who basically just hit the strings with a ball point pen) was trying to get the heckler up on stage to fight or something. It was just kinda pathetic. If you’re in a rock band, be prepared for hecklers. Letting it get to him so bad just made the whole show even that much more uncomfortable.
