OK here one for ya’ I just got a 62 Reissue Jazzmaster and when I play through my clean channel (Cyber Twin set at 65′ Twin Reverb) and rub my finger against the pick gaurd I get crackles. It sounds like an old record cracking or popping. I called my buddy who owns a vintage guitar shop and he told me its static electricty, and that they’ve been trying to figure out how to fix that for years. Have any of you run across this? If you know how to fix it I’d love to know. My Tele and Strat work fine no popping or cracking. But my Jazzmaster is just too electric I guess. Maybe thats why J like em’. :-
April 12, 2006 at 5:42 am #116132it could be a ground, or a sheilding issue. truthfully ive never heard such a claim on a guitar, i think its just that one jazzmaster you have. if you bought it new i would hvae it replaced or fixed.
April 12, 2006 at 9:13 am #116133I thought it might be a grounding thing. I just put new strings on it and don’t want to rip them off just yet. But when they get dirty I’m going to pull the pick guard off to take a look at the grounding. I have a hunch I know what it may be.
April 12, 2006 at 2:50 pm #116134the 62 is av right? not one of the new cijs? anyway the grounding should be in the tremelo assymbly, but i could be wrong since if never seen one disassembled in person. it also could be a bad solder joint, but yeah hope you fix it the jazzmasters a splendid guitar.
April 13, 2006 at 3:35 pm #116135Yeah it’s American Vintage, but the ground isn’t in the tremelo. The original pick gaurd had a metal plate behind it grounding everything together. When I swapped it out I didn’t put it back on because holes didn’t align up right. As a result I had to jumper the ground from the tone pot to the bridge pick up.
Next time I take the strings off I’m going to inspect all the ground connections, I may even try to install the metal plate again behind the new pick gaurd.
April 13, 2006 at 4:49 pm #116136so it must be a sheilding issue, anyway if you cant get the adhesive(im pretty sure its glued on there) if you cant some tin foil will work fine, im almost posotive your just getting interference, from everything. most of the jazzers ive seen have ahd the ground routed to the tremelo plate. anyway i couldhave been mistaken. post pics of your jazzer!
April 17, 2006 at 10:36 am #116137You were absolutly correct, it was a sheilding issue. I re did the original metal plate that fit under the original pick guard to fit the new one. Once installed it was perfectly fine. Now it fuckin’ rules! I’ll take some pics and post them here later this week.
April 19, 2006 at 4:34 pm #116138awesome, glad you fixed it!
