Inspired by Malcom`s idea of Tom Petty and the Crash Test Dummies working together got me thinking about some strange encounters in music:
-Texas psychedelic band the 13th Floor Elevators had their albums produced by Leland Rogers(brother of Kenny Rogers <img> )
-Tom Waits once did a movie soundtrack with duets with Crystal Gayle <img>
-Steve Albini produced Robert Plant/Jimmy Page`s 1998 album Walking Into Clarksdale
-At a Johnny Cash concert years ago Tom Petty was sitting at a table with Henry Rollins
-Tony Bennett Unplugged for MTV had J and Evan Dando guesting but got cut out when the show aired
-Alice Cooper plays golf with Glen Campbell <img> <img>
-On the MC5`s High Time album,Bob Seger plays percussion on it
-Charles Manson tried out for The Monkees
-80`s pop star Debbie Gibson did a song with the Circle Jerks,a cover of the Soft Boys I Wanna Destroy You <img>anyone got anything to add?
I remember that Bowie and Crosby duet,very strange pairing <img>
Pavorotti once toured with Tammy Wynette,Sting,and Peter Gabriel <img>I thought up another strange one:Captain Beefheart`s A and M sessions;produced by David Gates of Bread <img>
A combination that I thought was quite stange when I first heard of it, but the results are very good:

I thought up the ultimate strangest meeting of musicians,that Sgt Pepper`s movie from the 70`s starring the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton with Tina Turner,Johnny Winter,Hank Williams Jr,Eddie Harris,Lenny White,Aerosmith,George Burns <img> ,etc.

Girlfriend of mine is NOT a paul mcartney fan, she borrowed a Paul Weller solo disc of mine as she was a huge Jam fan. She was holding the disc listening to the news when she heard Paul Weller was working with paul mcartney on a single/charity deal. She pitched the Weller disc at the tv, breaking both out of disgust <img> <img> <img> She definitely has an impulse control problem, not a mcartney fan myself but for charity sounds like a fair deal. They replaced my disc for me.
That sgt pepper deal scares me <img> can you imagine if they remade it now, indie, hair bands, boy bands…I gotta stop I’m scaring myself <img>

Funny you should mention Weller,when I was listening to Spoon earlier,I was thinking about how they sound kinda like The Jam on some songs.
Not sure what to think of Weller`s solo stuff,I saw a video by the Style Council on mm not long ago,did`nt care for that;your friend`s dislike of Paul reminds me of that Archers Of Loaf song Ethel Merman which refers to an incident in Florida at the college radio station when someone was playing the Beatles,a guy went crazy with a sledgehammer and started smashing stuff <img> <img>Sledgehammer smashing caused by hearing the beatles… <img> <img> <img>
Style Council may scare me just about as much as boy bands <img> Not a big fan of wellers solo stuff, like a couple songs but thats over more than a couple discs. Loved early Jam though <img>
