March 18, 2004 at 3:46 pm #99606I realise that I’m a bit late to be a part of the welcoming comitte, but I just wanted to point out that there are no stupid way of discovering dino. All that leads to dino is great in my book
March 18, 2004 at 5:58 pm #99607How I discovered Dinosaur Jr. (somewhere in 1989):
Had heard this great song on the radio (the excellent Belgian station ‘Studio Brussel’ aka ‘StuBru’) a couple of times, finally catched the name of the artist, and when I was in my favourite recordshop (Sounds in Venlo) a couple of days later, I checked the vinyl singles section, and YES!, they had it: Buffalo Tom’s ‘Sunflower Suit’
, when I was paying for it they suddenly started playing another song I also recognized from StuBru, asked the guy from the shop who it was, turned out to be Dinosaur Jr’s ‘Freak Scene’, bought that as well, and that was the start…..
ps. It was not until quite a long time later that I discovered that there was a close link between the Dinosaur & the Buffalo
June 7, 2004 at 9:46 pm #99608Mine was pretty straightfoward – 10th grade PE class (this would be in ’92) there was a fellow guitarist and I who would jog the mile together… one time he went off about about J’s abilities and proclaimed them to be "the best band in existence".
Sorry OT – Fugazi is one of my faves… the summer of that year I was bagging groceries, some Leonardi Dicaprio looking SOB I worked with would blast Repeater in his car on smoke breaks and proclaimed them to be "the best band in existence".
Ah, salad days. – Beau
June 10, 2004 at 9:08 pm #99609Mine is sort of funny, I was in a relationship in NYC and my guy was working in Europe and I found myself feeling single and getting board. I would go to Atlanta often and visit with my sister.
She had a roomate Frank who had a best friend and we started hanging out. He was a Gemini and we liked alot of the same things. He would come and see me when I was in town and pick me up and we would go driving around Atlanta. He always played the same music, Dinosaur Jr. He had a cassett tape with "Your living all over me" on one side and "Bug" on the other. Soon I could sing along with the whole tape. We had a great summer together and when my guy was due home, I knew we could no longer hang together like we had been. When I was leaving once to fly back to NYC, he gave me that tape and I still have it!!
Oh, Oh, and after I moved to Georgia he told me that the song "puke and Cry" was how he felt about me. I then felt
and
hmmmm, thanks for the music R.G. I hear your married with children also.June 12, 2004 at 10:42 am #99610puke + cry is one of my faves …
why didn’t he tell you that at the time ? were you into him too ?
June 13, 2004 at 9:58 am #99611"rambleon" wrote:why didn’t he tell you that at the time ? were you into him too ?My husband had to put it together for me. When I moved to Atlanta from NYC I was living with this guy, his roomate was just moving out and I took over. We would stay up late talking and laughing and drinking wine and nothing. I often thought he would end up in my bed. I was traveling a lot so I only stayed there one week or so out of the month. After 6 months I started dating my husband he would ask me "What is your relationship with your roomate" and I would say he is just my friend. Juan would say "but he looks so sad everytime I pick you up" and " I can feel his vibes, he is in to you" and I would say "Well I have known him for a few years and NOTHING, he is like my brother (remember, he was a Gemini, and they say we choose lovers who seem more like brothers) "If he really liked me he would come to my bed, kiss me or something" and then Juan said "Can’t you tell he is really shy and nice, he would never do something like that, he was waiting for you" Well, I had no idea. My husband now is a really good match for me, he is NOT shy and has never had any trouble finding his way into a girls bed, (even after being married!!) but…..you gotta love a Leo. More on that later. Is it not great how women can write of romance, perhaps men can and are interested but I am not to sure. Most of the guys my husband knows are very willing to talk about what they are doing to make money but when it comes to romance I just get a " God, I got laid last night, it was great" Well, we are off to the swimming pool, I am going to hit submit and see if I made a quote, FC gave me some advice, lets see if it works.
June 13, 2004 at 1:47 pm #99612cool, the quote worked

sad story, kinda
good to know your former roomate is also married with children, like you said earlier, so it looks like he got over it
June 14, 2004 at 9:42 am #99613Yes, I hope we all get over it, thats what life is about. My good friend Joel is set to get married in September and he is getting very cold feet. (Thinks now it is not what he wants to do) His girl is out of town for two weeks and he told me he is going to tell her when she comes home that the wedding is off. He asked me to pray with him because he is so sorry that he has broken so many hearts, he feels guilty. I told him we all break hearts and we all have ours crushed when we are younger. Now I must wait for my children who are just a few years away from the teenage years, and I think of the suffering they will go through. Most of us survive it. The funny thing is I have two very tough strong girls and one very sensitive little guy, he cries during animal shows when he sees any struggle or injustice. I still love life with all of its sorrows and sadness, it is full of just as many glorious moments of pure delight and satisfaction.
June 14, 2004 at 10:02 am #99614oh dear … well, it is much better that your friend joel calls it off now than wait until he’s married, has kids, buys a house etc … it’s a bummer, but it’s a good thing he’s being honest w/himself + his girlfriend … i wish him all the best …
