I`m not a big Pink Floyd fan but I am a Barrett fan.His influence has been heard over the decades(GBV and NMH for example). His vocal style was haunting and Georgia from Yo La Tengo summed up his songs as ‘strangly beautiful’ which I agree on.

Piper rules!!!!
July 12, 2006 at 10:46 am #119100The only guy too far out there for even Pink Floyd….that’s just scary. And also a testament the fact that psychotropic drugs do enhance some creative portions of the brain, he just "cooked" a little too long.

It is obvious
may I say, oh baby, that it is found on another plane?
Yes I can creep into cupboards, sleep in the hall
your stars – my stars, a simple cot bars
only an impulse – pie in the sky
mumble listen dolly
drift over your mind – holly
creep into bed when your head’s on the ground
she held the torch on the porch,
she winked an eyeReason it is written on the brambles
stranded on the spikes – my blood red, oh listen:
remember those times I could call
through the clear day
time you’d be there…
and braver and braver, a handkerchief waver
the louder you lips to a loud hailer
growing together, they good of each either
no wondering, stumbling, fumbling
rumbling minds shot together,
our minds shot together…So equally over a valley, a hill
wood on quarry stood, each of us crying
a velvet curtain of gray
mark the blanket where the sparrows play
and the trees by the waving corn stranded
my legs move the last empty inches to you
the softness, the warmth from the weather in suspense
mote to a grog – the star a white chalk
minds shot together, our minds shot together…July 12, 2006 at 11:13 am #119102Hey, I know you
(I think

Yes, R.I.P. Mr. Barrett.July 12, 2006 at 2:54 pm #119103Shine on, you crazy diamond! The sky is finaly all yours
July 13, 2006 at 8:08 am #119104Haven’t been that familiar with Pink Floyd, but have heard the Pulse live cd and know the most popular songs (how can one avoid that). Heard Barretts Madcap laughs over ten years ago, but haven’t listened to it since, so probably was not overwhelmed. To my excuse I was about 14 at the time. Still have the cd, so I can give it a second go.
Today I was in a second hand store, and bought some vinyl. Chet Atkins from 1967, Genesis’ Nursery Cryme, Nils Lofgrens Flip from 1987 (never heard him before, but what the heck), have no idea what to expect but hopefully it isn’t as awfull as the cover. And then, Pink Floyds Animals. Listening to it right now. Nice stuff. So will probably check out their catalog more closely and also get some stuff where Syd Barrett is on.

July 31, 2006 at 10:58 pm #119107…Syd Barrett was too cool for this world and i think he had the right idea and was probablly happier than most made him out to be, but it made me sad that no one seems ot care that his is gone, i didn’t even hear for daze and it is sad but i have his solo albums and they make me smile and cry at the same time and that is all that you need to be…
