Sorry dude… afraid I’m just not good enough to figure that out, plus I don’t have decent wah…. I will defientely have a go at it this weekend though but not promising anything

I think it would be pretty hard to understand the tab too with all the foot pedal parts to follow etc…. Definetly one of my fav J solos, along with Sludgefeast

Man, someone please help with that Freak Scene intro / main chords!

Okay, it’s a D (with the "A" on the fifth fret), then Em with some kind of move to the F# (D string, 4th fret), then a slide up to fifth fret A (with open A and open high E ringing out) that is later modified by adding F# (seventh fret B string), then J moves _up_ the neck (you can see it in the vids) for the last notes/chord.

It sounds so simple when you hear it, but all the tabs (and even the version of that guy’s band playing it) lack the Em – F# mod and the last chord.

I’ve slowed it down (w/software) and played it a million times.
I’ve downloaded different versions by J and others.
I’ve watched the vids.

Yet, it stil doesn’t sound right.

Someone should ask J or find a Guitar mag tab or something… Has anyone figured this out? The "Little Fury Things" tab is great and sounds fantastic. If I could play a full "Freak Scene" I would be very happy!

Any help appreciated.

I’ve also looked at all the videos and I’m still not 100% sure how to play it…. I think I’ve tried almost every chord possible I can’t believe there isn’t a good tab for it as it seems to be one of the most popular dinosaur songs (not mine). Well here’s my effort, it can’t be too far off…. I might have ago at the solo now so if I get anywhere I’ll post it

Heres the first solo and I’m quite shocked that I managed to figure it out….. the only parts that were hard is where you can’t hear what’s being played clearly but I’m pretty sure it’s all right and if not you should be able to improvise round the notes that are there anyway. Hope this helps

alice, the whole tab is excellent. the (e-0-0-5-5-0-0) part doesn’t sound good and i’ve tried to find it but i can even play something similar and it sounds so simple.

I know what you mean about that part, I was playin it the other day and i think it sounds better hittin the 7th fret insted of the 5th on the E string. Have a go at that and see if you think it sounds better…. hopefully when i go see them i’ll video j playin that part

Main riff, Heavy Riff, Middle Eight…actually, all of it is at least a bit different.

I also added the lyrics, and pasted in your solo. The font is 9pt. Monaco for correct spacing.

I hope someone can use this. I still am wondering about the chord in the main riff though (the second "D").
Anyone have some changes / suggestions?

Thanks for your efforts brainiac, its refreshing to get some help and see others tabs… I’ll have to have a play around with what you have. I’m Sam by the way

I want to thank tonas for helping me out with the Pond Song chorus, hopefully we’ll crack it soon and get it posted here…. if anybody out there can play it I would appriciate it hugely if you could post it here

These tabs are great,after searching the web for these tabs only to find bad tabs with crappy or no solo. I really appreciate what you guys have done and now I am motivated to help tab out dinosaur jr’s first three albums.I’ll try to post some tabs soon.Thanks again

haven’t tried out your tab, oldskool, but this tab has a solo for In a Jar. i don’t think the chords and everything are correct, but the solo is pretty much perfect.

i wish i could be a good tabber and work on the tabs after Bug. i assume that stuff is harder, though.
