In continuation of the top 5 songs thread…

My picks for 5 cool songs today are:
Squirrel Bait-Choose Yr Poison:wicked tune!SB sure could rip
Neil Young-Thrasher:my fav Neil song, another anthem of my view of life
Sonic Youth-Expressway To Yr Skull:SY`s best song?I think so,the banging on the guitars at the end shows SY`s experimental side well.
Pixies-Tame:Frank Black sure can scream

Versus-Morning Glory:this one takes off in alot of directions,an example of how to do a 6 or 7 minute tune the right way.
March 18, 2003 at 4:02 pm #92029hey, cool topic … there are definitely more than just 5

and it’s also true that the most beloved songs are changing … maybe daily
well, it’s definitely interesting to read about others fav songs and why, it’s cool to discover great new music (or to agree or disagree with the choices), so I’ll come over with some of mine …but it seems it takes time to think about it
March 19, 2003 at 8:24 am #92030Here`s another 5
:Buffalo Tom-Larry:I swear you could levitate from this one, beautiful song
Palace Brothers-Horses:Mekons cover song,I love the lyrics and feel of it,and the guitar solo is amazing(problably played by Dave Pajo)
Eric`s Trip-Sunlight:another anthem,a rocker of a tune showing their Dino influence
Dinosaur Jr-They Always Come:I agree with VF on this one,I love songs like this that go in one direction then change in the middle.
Nick Drake-Things Behind The Sun:my fav Drake song,it`s so haunting,"you`ll find reknown while people frown at things that you say".
March 19, 2003 at 2:15 pm #92031I think I’ve been hypnotized by They Always Come…thats not a bad thing though
My five that just couldn’t fit on the original list…
Stooges-I Got A Right
Jesus and Mary Chain-Just Like Honey
Dinosaur Jr-Little Fury Things
Husker Du-Don’t Want To Know If You Are Lonely
Flaming Lips-Turn It On
I think I have about a zillion more to add…
March 19, 2003 at 4:17 pm #92032Eh, I haven’t listened to five songs today. This morning, whilst getting ready for work I was listening to Thursday’s "Cross Out the Eyes." I know I’m the only fan of this group on the board, but have you ever listened to the production of this song? Its pretty neat. The first 25 seconds sound like another NewfoundGlory song as the singer croons (?) "lets call this the quiet city/whose screams are felt by the stoplight/drive/through the streets as gunshots puctuate the night/the sides/we take/divide/us from our faith. over a slightly distorted poppy guitar riff then as he sings "and the morning dove gets caught/IN A TELEPHONE WIRE" as the last line is filled in by the background screamer, the whole song dives. the guitars begin to rage, the tempo slows down, and the chorus is filled with more of the screams the band is known for. I dunno, its a great stunt, it really is.
March 19, 2003 at 4:39 pm #92033Malk-it does`nt have to be songs you`ve heard recently, just your all time favs, even if you have`nt heard them in months.
A guy in the record store told me about Thursday awhile back,I did`nt check into them,I`ll do so soon.March 20, 2003 at 7:41 am #92034Another 5:
Red House Painters-Between Days:hard not to like this one
The Stooges-1970:love the bassline!when the sax comes in is

Sebadoh-Brand New Love:one of Lou`s best songs
Yo La Tengo-Tom Courtney:"Julie Christie, the rumors are true";the doo wop backing vocals add alot.
Come-Off To One Side:half of it is an intro with just guitar then they rip into it.
March 20, 2003 at 4:34 pm #92035Love that Red House Painters song, I think its impossible not to like it

Thanks

March 20, 2003 at 4:40 pm #92036yeah, got that song (Between Days) thru the audiogalaxy group, back then, and I immediately liked it – so I completely agree
March 20, 2003 at 6:10 pm #92037also really great is the red house painters song ‘grace cathedral park’. it’s really quite sad as he realizes that this woman will ‘never be the one’. plus, grace cathedral park is in san francisco so i can imagine him there and stuff… and it’s just a great song!

Silkworm-Miracle Mile:a tour diary type song, definitely shows how life on the road is rough.
