I’m currently finishing a dissertation in 18th C British and American literature and history, and applying for assistant professor jobs at the moment. Which means in July I could end up in California, eastern or western Canada, Iowa, Chicago, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Boston, NYC or a host of other places. Or I could come up empty, stay here, and try again next year.

It’s all, as they say, "academic" at this point anyway, as I won’t even know who’s really interested in me until mid-December, and after that it’s up to me not to fuck things up in interviews by speaking my mind too forcefully, and then again during campus visits, where I’ll have to be careful not to get bombed at dinner and start shooting my mouth off (like I have a tendency to do). Whatever the case, it’ll be nice to get the fuck out of Jersey. Hopefully I won’t end up in bumfuck Kentucky or somewhere comparable, though, where Dino never play. I’ve gotten spoiled living out here in the northeast.
