it’s a good book. i read it in junior high. it should be required reading in school.. you learn a lot about the hard times a lot of folks had in the early part of last century.. and that islam is not such a bad thing unless your a cracker jackass whitey, then you awts to get clobbered with a clobberstick.
what a great book…i read it a couple of years ago after going through a Black Power reading phase. i checked out Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver and Blood in My Eye by George Jackson (as well as some other stuff) and i thought the Malcolm book was the best one. he clearly shows the transitions in his reasoning and makes a strong case for intense resistance against Whitey.
race relations in America…now there’s a contentious topic. what i admire about Mr. X is that he was willing to admit his faults in reasoning. once he embraced the theology of Islam as a man and not as an angry reactionary, it seems he was able to chill out a bit. then he got shot.
so i think this book contains some valuable truth. embracing ideology with passion means you’re going to put your foot in your mouth a few times. i totally agree with crazycloud; this should be required reading for students. maybe disseminating these ideas could foster more smart punks among the youth of today, instead of jaded consumers who are too young to be jaded or consumers….
