Well…kinda feels like this has moved away from its original topic. Anyways. Forgot to mention the Rentals! They’re about the sweetest band in space[img]http://www.freakscene.net/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif[/img] And with the best female vocals ever.

-Neil YoungI’ve just gotta say, I think Kim Gordon is great! Her daughter, by the way–Coco Hayley Gordon Moore–does a bit of singing, too (well, okay, it’s more like shrieking). She does a Yoko Ono cover on SY’s Goodbye Twentieth Century. I also like the Cocteau Twins, Yo La Tengo, X, and Bjork. I love that Babes in Toyland song on The Year Punk Broke. But I’m disappointed that no one mentioned the Pretenders (especially you, Robert, since they toured with ol’ Neil this past year)!
I’m not into rock bands with chicks in em cause they lack that certain balls-ee ness needed to be half good! If you really take a look at the female artists you guys have named there really isnt a good muso amomgets them[img]http://www.freakscene.net/ubb/smilies/pissed.gif[/img]
P.s: So dont kid yourselfs and try to compare female muso’s to male, cause there’s no artist that compare to that certain something a j mascis or kurt Cobain obtain!

Les ClaypoolI can see it now, deathmatch 2001 Aretha versus anti-pop….taking bets what do you think the odds should be…would be hilarious. I gotta disagree with you, although I don’t even have a top 20 group with a female a lot of the bands listed above are amazing. I don’t pick a fav group/sound because of their gender but I definitely don’t exclude any because of what sex they are. I am definitely open to any sounds that make me happy, basically thats the bottom line, you never know something might surprise you…when it happens its great!!!

Les ClaypoolErrrr, Antipop, are you really the bigoted, narrow-minded, selfrighteous jerk that you pretend to be or are you just desperately trying to be controversial. Either way, you don´t have to be a trained musician to kick ass and who needs ball-seeness if you got a voice like Astrud Gilberto (Mind you, she can´t sing either). But to give you your due, I truely can´t think of a good Australian band with a female singer. Such a laddish country.

You know there are tons of things I like about Australia: the weather, freezing here if only I could afford the flight, great website i94bar.com…very very cool, some great bands as well…The Saints are incredible, Radio Birdman were amazing. That last post is definitely not one of the things I like….what is up with that???? I think you read something into that message that wasn’t there. Changed my mind about the deathmatch 2001, Chris Bailey from the Saints and Deniz Tek from Radio Birdman will hold you down as Aretha plays a horrifying song over and over again…..hmmmmm. Kinda harsh I know but hey its late and my impulse control is low. YIKES!!!

In fact, in my experience, everyone who´s stating things like:"It´s a waste of time to listen to female musicians" is virtually begging for abuse, so I thought I was doing you a favour here [img]http://www.freakscene.net/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] . As for the freedom of speech bit. I very much hope that the sentiments you expressed here are in the tradition of what Javro so aptly called international jolly banter otherwise I would have to be forced to point out that it´s pretty rich of someone from Australia to acuse other people of being racists. And hey, I love Australia. Had the opportunity to spend there 6 months and I had a wonderful time. Never made it to Melbourne though. And now I´m going to check out Killing Heidi.

Did anyone say the Blake Babies? Although I did see Juliana Hatfield on a post. The Blake Babies do a great Severed Lips cover – other favs:
The Muffs, Bettie Serveert, Scrawl, The Fastbacks, Superchunk, and Yo La Tengo.
This doesn’t count but for the longest time I thought Sunny Day Real Estate had a female on lead vocals- sorry guys.

Perhaps xenophobe or nationalist are words you could use to better convey your feelings. David Duke, Jessie Jackson…these are racists. People who dislike Aussies for no apparent reason are just big meanies.
