Yeah, I wonder if there will be any new classics on this album. You know Freak Scene is almost 20 years old now. So in 2027 we might sit down and enjoy Almost Ready like we enjoy freak scen now.
Maybe this is for a new topic. "The New Classics" or something.

Musicians should have control over their creations–from start to finish. If users really wanted to open some eyes–they wouldn’t pirate the artist’s music. In effect, becoming the user’s slave."everyonelovesjaron " wrote:Oink has pulled the torrent apparently "at the band’s management’s request" and is not allowing it to be re-upped until 5/1. No idea why it’s more acceptable then. Apparently whoever was in the band’s management got their account yanked as well. Was that you Jeremiah?obviously a lot of different opinions on the realities of sharing music online, different countries have different laws, cool to see people can disagree, respectfully. This quote is from a 2001, an interview with the Fog
Quote:Me- What about Napster? What do you guys think about that issue?Mascis- Well my first feeling was whatever Metallica was against, I was for (laughs). But really, I’m all for it.
Watt- I’m for it.
Me- What about the arguement that it takes away from record sales?
Watt- I don’t make my money from album sales. I make my money from gigs. I think the songs on Napster are like flyers for the shows.
George- Yea, it’s a no brainer, just think the opposite of Metallica. I’m all for Napster.
Me- You guys want to say anything in closing.
George- Just make us look cool man.
not sure thats the case with leaks though, the above quote related to reposting the album link post release date kinda makes sense then. Not sure how indie music distributors/websites or stores feel about that though, not sure how Dino management or band feel about it, just my spin on the leak & post release date file sharing. I’m with Fata related to pre release posting of music.
but again it could be just some lame alien doing some sort of sims game with us, lots of buzz out there about Dinosaur…most good which is always cool. Hope they all come thru & buy the disc, support the tour & hopefully some great merch…I want bobbleheads

for the alien thing I recommend this, just in case…afdb

February 14, 2007 at 8:24 pm #125738This album is really growing on me! I’m so glad Dinosaur Jr. is back together again!
February 14, 2007 at 9:43 pm #125739I might be openin’ a can of worms with this but, does anyone remember when this website "freakscene.net", Had all of the mp3s for morelight available before the album was released? Did Dino and their people approve?…Just wonderin’….I downloaded all the songs and I remember the excitement of getting the new cd was ruined by already knowing the tunes. Since then I always try to wait for the proper release but you know how that works (I already heard 4 tracks from beyond. Two by accident "myspace").
February 15, 2007 at 2:44 am #125740This whole thing about albums leaking out PRE-release date etc… you know, I used to work for a HUGE, BIG name indie-distributor a couple of years ago that has all of the "classic 90s" indie bands, Sebadoh, Pavement, Smog etc., you name it. Just a small, sometimes boring, but usually interesting job to bring some money in and to continue playing music (which I did for a living, more or less). Among many things it was my job to pack up and send out advance promos (pre-release date). For many albums, about 2 to 3 months before the actual release date I had to send out A COUPLE OF HUNDERED items to various radio stations, journalists, record stores – some even got more than 1 copy (2, 3, 4) of the same, yet-to-be-released item, for either magazine reviews, FM to play a few tunes on the radio before the album comes out, people from record stores so they’ll hopefully buy a decent stock of a new album, so my question is: who should we blame here ? There’s so many people involved it’s hard to say. With so many people you’ll always find someone ripping the disc and sharing it online.
February 15, 2007 at 8:20 am #125741You’re right, I run a little web-based music magazine thing and I get all sorts of releases way early. I can honestly say I’ve never ripped a CD and put it out on the web. I have burned lots of copies for friends, but that’s normally to turn them onto a great band.
I still try to buy albums of bands I REALLY like, so they will be more apt to tour through Houston, since they have data showing a lot of their music was bought here. I subscribe to the "if I’m doing it, at least 10 other people must be doing it." mindset. Almost every band we’ve covered has sent us CDs of their music. Normally, since they’re touring to support an album, we’ll get the music about a month before it’s released.
I know lots of fanzine kids and webzine kids who rip and p2p share anything they get. They mostly do indie punk albums, but there will always be SOMEONE out there doing it. Before the release date, on the release date and after the release date.

It’s fun to call people thieves and assholes though, so why fight the way things are?I’ve had the pleasure to work in one of the biggest music libraries ever: a record store. We would receive a lot of promos, a few of which I have at home. I’ve been lucky enough to receive the first Sparklehorse album this way, which I adore. Sparklehorse is now touring and I will finally have a chance to see this show. I am paying back what I owe.

http://www.cafemono.no/?id=714February 24, 2007 at 5:02 am #125749I downloaded the album (i have weak willpower and just couldnt resist – same thing happened with the new Stooges album and Stadium Arcadium when it was released).
Anyway, i think the album is pretty solid but i think Back To Your Heart is my favourite song off the album. I also like Crumble.
February 27, 2007 at 4:37 pm #125750i really like tracks 2,3,4,7,8,10 and 11 im kinda suprised that they put up "almost ready" and "been there all the time" on the myspace page. decent songs but i think theres others with alot more power.
