what if J and Lou got into some kind of argument or something and broke the band up AGAIN!? I know they’ve probably learned from their mistakes but according to a lot of interviews J and Lou arent exactly buddies. They say their more like acquaintances, and it doesnt seem very buddy buddyish.
I dunno, maybe im over thinking, but it just scared me when I thought about it, though J never seemed to really be best buds with anyone in the bands hes been in.
anyways,
You guys think they’ll make it for at least another record?
May 25, 2007 at 5:46 pm #129361Not sure if they’ll make it. The reunion has certainly been well received and very lucrative, but I don’t know if I can see them making another LP. This isn’t to say that I don’t want them to do so (far from it, as a matter of fact). In all honesty, I kinda dig the tentativeness of Dinosaur’s future. makes it more exciting and rewarding to see them.

June 1, 2007 at 5:52 am #129363Yeah, probbably the last time we will see Dino live again. They didn’t come here so I don’t get to see them, I missed Sebadoh when they came, so just another favorite band of mine I will never see.
June 5, 2007 at 1:35 am #129364you know i was thinking about something similar to this too. You guys think J is ever going to return to the fog or will dino jr return back completly? I think there was talk of Sebadoh writing a new album with their original line up.
June 5, 2007 at 7:00 am #129365well, they sold out both shows here in michigan i think (1st one for sure), and i read before that there doin in mostly for money, and i KNOW Js gettin more for this than with the fog, so i dunno. I’m sure if Lou would do it J would be up for it.

His playing is different with the Fog, especially with the Schools/Spence lineup; it’s more open and expansive. Dino is more aggressive and compressed. Ideally, he’ll switch on and off between the Fog and Dino, playing entirely different material with each. There are so many of J’s songs I’m jonesing to hear these days that will never get aired with the J/Lou/Murph lineup.
June 5, 2007 at 5:38 pm #129367The question is: If Lou and J get in a fight or something and Lou leaves, will J continue on with Dinosaur, Jr. He could bring Mike Johnson back and then it’d be Dino pt. 2 …they could tour and do Green Mind, Where You Been, etc.
June 5, 2007 at 6:17 pm #129368really Tubby? i would hope more from Dinosaur Jr. Maybe its cuz i love lou, but, even musically i enjoy dino cds more.
June 5, 2007 at 6:30 pm #129369J and Lou will ever be best friends, but J does seem happier to me then he did in the past. Plus, the past few Dino tours have to have gone pretty well financially because they do have that big tour bus instead of those vans they used to tour in the later Dino and Fog years. The album even seems like they were just having fun to me.
I’d love to hear songs like Drawerings and What Else is New, and this line up is very capable of doing it. I think Murph is drumming better then ever, and I think is think he’s a bit of a Zappa fan, so stretching things out wont be a problem for him. Lou seems to be enjoying himself on stage too. I think his bass playing is better then it was on the first reunion tour too. I thought songs like the Wagon and Out There sounded excellent. Pick Me Up is another song they stretch out a bit on. Now if they just take the next step into Alone and AMmaring territory.
At the end of the second show in Ann Arbor, the band just kind of jammed for a few minutes, and that was the first time I’d ever heard them(this line up) do that live. I don’t think they were covering any particular song, just jamming at the end of the night. It was great.

June 5, 2007 at 8:14 pm #129371Anna,
If you saw J, Lou, and Murph play Pick Me Up, Out There, and Sludge lately I think your tummy would hurt less. They are perfectly capable of going from Out There, to Chunks, to Alone.

I have no doubt they are capable I just don’t think it would be the right thing to do, it would be all wrong
but hey who am to say?June 5, 2007 at 9:17 pm #129373yea, Lou n Murph are louder rockers though. i dont even think theyd llike to play ammaring.
June 5, 2007 at 10:16 pm #129374Anna, I hope you didnt take my post in a negative way. My inetntion was to encourage/convince/persuade you that this line up can pull off athe Fog type stuff. I usually just do a pretty poor job of trying to make my point.
I just think that songs like Pick Me Up and Out There, which are songs they all tend to stretch out on, Lou and Murph seem to be completely enjoying themselves. It’s not like they are being forced to comprimise or anything. And I really dont think songs like Alone or Ammaring are too far from Pick Me Up. Drawerings is probably my all time favorite J tune, and I know these guys could play the heck out of it.
Who knows, maybe I’m just way too excited because I saw them play the last couple nights. But it is so refreshing to see the news songs they have incorporated into the set list (Beyond, Out There, Feel The Pain, and The Wagon), and having them fit in perfectly with stuff from the first 3 albums.
But I could be way off too.
Justin,
When J plays Ammaring live, he tends to stretch it out. Sometimes even over 10 minutes long. It is heavier live, then on the cds.
