late night sleep music:

smog – doctor came at dawn
low – things we lost in the fire
belle + sebastian – tigermilk
palace – arise therefore
gybe! – slow riot….
built to spill – perfect from now on
anything by dirty three
anything by my bloody valentine

on the other hand, what are some albums that you can’t fall asleep to no matter how hard you try? here are some that just won’t let me fall asleep:

flaming lips – any disc from zaireeka
mogwai
modest mouse – interstate 8

How about songs you hear in your dreams?

Dinosaur Jr-The Lung
Low-The Lamb
some Charles Mingus songs

Heh, I always hear "I would hurt a fly" by Built to Spill and "Goin’ Home", J’s acoustic version for some reason in my dreams…

Welcome back from your coma Jamie

Sounds that limit my sleeping ability…

anything by
J
Hellacopters
MBV
Modest Mouse
Husker Du or anything related
Swervedriver
early Flaming Lips

I usually end up putting on the above, don’t get much sleep at the best of times so why not

Dream Songs:

I know this is because of the song title / lyrics but I always hear ‘Made-Up Dreams’ by Built to Spill when I’m going into a dream state, or even when I go to tell someone about a dream. Those lines of ‘no one wants to hear / what you dreamnt about / unless you dreamnt about / them… / but that’s okay / you can make it up / as you go / along…’ just are so surreal.

About LCW by Modest Mouse… This has some of the best sleeping songs around. Trucker’s Atlas has that hypnotizing drum beat that puts me to sleep always, plus it’s 12 minutes long. Cowboy Dan is the perfect winding down song. On the other hand, it’s hard to get much rest when Shit Luck or Teeth Like.. are playing.

Oh, gotta get with Filmore Jive by Pavement for bedtime music. Or Stop Breathin.

I’m just rambling now, but has anyone seen the Pavement DVD? And the guy from KROQ talking shit to the crowd before Pavement plays?

‘We own you! We can turn you on to some really good music… Just like we did with Pavement… 7 or 8 years ago, none of you had ever heard of Pavement, until we started the trend…’

That’s my favorite 2 minutes of DVD footage I own.

-Jamie
