just had a hearing yesterday with the judge who sentenced me on my drunk driving charge. he was remoteley cool, however the assistant DA was a vengeful wench who wanted to see me behind bars. long story short: an additional 15 days of house arrest tacked on to my original sentence of 45 days, so i’m stuck in the house ( other than work) till nov. 22…….bummer.. send me good tune ideas to look for on the web…….i got lots of time on my ands.

November 8, 2002 at 2:10 am #73203They invented the genre that became "emo"
and guitarist/frontman Guy Picioto and the drummer (whose name leaves me) later joined Fugazi.
Also, if you like the Ramones, listen to the Mooney Suzuki.
November 8, 2002 at 2:13 am #73204hehe, i’ve been jamin’ to the Mooney. thanks for the suggestions. i’m searching for rites of spring right now. thanks again.

November 8, 2002 at 10:16 am #73210I have to agree with Rabbit on the Go Betweens, good stuff, and that Fairport Convention album is a classic,A Sailor`s Life from that is incredible,Sandy Denny is J`s fav singer by the way.
Rites Of Spring are way cool I agree with Malc on that.
All the bands CG mentioned are good.I`ll suggest:
Nina Nastasia(Rabbit suggested her to me,good stuff)
The Gossip(they sound like Sleater Kinney meets the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion or White Stripes)
The Bangs(much like Sleater Kinney)
Willard Grant Conspiracy(cool in a Nick Cave way with some folk/country influence)
16 Horsepower(the missing link between Hank Williams and Joy Division, southern gothic type music)
Hellacopters(always cool! )
Freakwater(more folk/country stuff)
Versus(NYC rock!some Sonic Youth,Pavement,Yo La Tengo influence but they have their own sound)
Silkworm(another fav band of mine,Neil Young like guitar solos, cool lyrics, and loud drums)
Eleventh Dream Day(another fav band of mine, think Neil Young,Velvet Underground,Television, and X,Janet also plays with Freakwater)[ 11-08-2002, 08:18 AM: Message edited by: Salamiguy ]
November 8, 2002 at 10:18 am #73211Hey Wireland, Fat Mike sang "Fuck the government until they fuck you back"
– Looks like you just got laid!Hey Malcolm – I always thought Descendants/All were the grandaddies of EMO. Ah well, diff’rent strokes….
If you like Ramones – try the Riverdales, they’re really good fun.
I’d also recommend picking up Mark Lanegan’s back catalogue – awesome stuff, it really is.
I’ve been listening to a lot of that QOTSA related stuff – Mondo Generator, Masters of Reality etc.
But THE band you should check out has to be The Dwarves – the finest punkrock outfit of all time, kinda like early Damned in a 60’s surf/garage band style.
Finally, check out some modern British punk – Snuff, Consumed and The Killerest Expression (http://www.killerest.com – don’t know how to do links duh!) are at the forefront of the British sound at the mo!
November 8, 2002 at 4:29 pm #73212Pixburgh’ll do that to yunz an at. That’s why I 1) lived on the South Side so I could walk to 100 bars, 2) moved. I feel for ya, check out:
the Peechees
Unwound
Weird War
Dismemberment Plan
Henry’s Dress
Pretty Girls Make Graves
and you can always revisit local greats Karl Hendricks Trio, Creta Bourzia, and Don Cabellero…November 8, 2002 at 9:58 pm #73213thanks for all the suggestions folks. i downloaded some of yer recommendations this afternoon, giving them a listen now
