these are just ideas, in other words; i don’t know…. there seem to be (at least) three types of dino jr fans. the rabid;know everything about them, got the t-shirt etc. the young that know something about them and are respectful of their rep. the older that enjoyed their hits and know something about power trios. the tour has a greatest hits/jam feel. if they have a business focus, it seems to be building new listeners. i think the artistic aim is like moe.; show us someone’s ass we can’t kick. The musicianship is so far above what most young people are used to, i wonder if they appreciate dino jr’s subtlety and eclectic influences? the rabid seem esoteric to the point that dino jr hits disappoint. It’s as if they want half the show to be band member solo projects. those of us that had to hear about the back in the day shows from our kids are enchanted to see them. I see them as this genre’s and this generation’s zz top. an act that will command respect and be around for a long time (if they can get along.) they played a power packed hour and did three multi song encores. it seems like only the rabid fan might stand a chance of being disappointed. again, the dallas show was in the top five i’ve ever seen. #1 ben harper #2 ani difranco/widespread panic #3 mountain/moe. #4 chanticleer #5 sarah mclaughlin/dino jr. now you know my looser taste in music.
