definetely seems like j turns down on this tour cause he knows hes not just playing to us, hes playing to a broader audience. that last fog tour with dave and kyle was SOO loud, the shows i saw anyway…

I guess you should just stay home and listen to the records, and only venture out for singer-songwriter acoustic gigs.
July 24, 2005 at 12:36 pm #111278Is it just me, or are all the volume/lack of energy complaints coming from the Canadians?

I remember seeing him at the State Theatre in Detroit many many years back, and I managed to ask him after the concert for an autograph. Obviously, unappreciative of his fans, he only put a lousy J, didn’t say a word, and acted like his normal cocky self.it never ceases to amaze me that people think "quiet" equals "cocky." my boyfriend occasionally struggles with this stigma and it’s really such a shame.
every time that I’ve seen J live (and there have been many) he’s been appreciative and obliging of his fans– taking pictures with them, signing autographs, accepting compliments on the show.
that said, some (SOME) of J’s fans are the most self-centered, rude, and socially stunted people I’ve ever encountered. people who are nice to J will have a great experience with him, but people who just want to engage him in contests of cynicism will not. to complain that his autograph consisted "only" of the letter J has got to be up there in the personality department.
if you thought he was acting like a prick, A) you were wrong, and you don’t understand the concept of "shy", or B) you were right, and you did something to deserve it.
July 24, 2005 at 5:53 pm #111280it was my birthday..love that song wanted to sing it proper..my mic got knocked down by the curtain…

That’s awesome!I organized a big private party earlier this year and booked J as the entertainment. I’ve always been a fan – but had never met him before.
After spending some time with him, I’d say he’s just a really a down-to-earth, nice guy. Obviously he’s pretty quiet, and easier to hang out with one-on-one than in a crowd, but personally he’s just very pleasant.
I met Lou after the Cleveland show. He’s also a class act. He just played this amazing concert and all he talked about afterwards was his baby daughter and his new responsibilities. Really a great guy – not pretentious or fake in the slightest.
I met Murph breifly as well – He seemed cool enough.
Not only is Dinosaur Jr a great band – but they also seem like great people. Why others feel the need to post insults towards them on their official message board is really beyond me.

Besides, it’s not the 80s anymore, they’re fucking adults. They dont need to explain themselves to anyone.

>looWhat I know is that if you want to pay 40 bucks to watch me act unprofessionally like that at work, (you know, like right now, posting on message boards when I should be working), I could probably hook that up Lou.

are you annoyed with paying $40 or are you annoyed with lou or
July 27, 2005 at 5:25 am #111287Man, who gives a crap what/who that whiny little baby’s annoyed at. I have to come outa retirment to chime in here. That comment about being *unprofessional* was simply ridiculous. Dinosaur is a punk band, for god’s sake. If you want *professional* call the Dell help line, just don’t expect any sympathy from 99.9% of the folks on this forum with comments like that.
BTW, Twinky, has it ever occured to you that when the curtain knocked down Lou’s mic and he was on the floor singing, he was being funny? Or that the balloon popping thing was in good fun as well? It was the man’s birthday. He was having a good time. I know for a fact that this was the case. Geesh, get a sense of humor.
July 27, 2005 at 6:58 am #111288I love how fasteddyclark and I are now giving our 2 cents worth of opinions under the Toronto topic but oh, well,
Jeff in New York wrote that the thing he loved the best about the band was the "sprawling" guitar solos…………….I believe sprawling is the exact opposite of J’s style of playing. He does not sprawl, sprawl does not mean "covers a large area" like most people think. Sprawl involves disorganization and lack of thought…………here is the definition from the dictionary… Sprawl 1. To sit or lie with the body and limbs spread out awkwardly. 2. To spread out in a straggling or disordered fashion: untidy. . When listening to the recordings of this tour I think the guitar stuff is outstanding, J is totally "rocking out" on some of that stuff, it’s over the top good, I still think the vocals tell a different story but.
On to the next subject, yes I think that the playing is too loud at times, it was alright when I was 25 but now, I have grown up and I don’t need music that hurts. I thought J with Dave and Kyle was not too loud, it was definietly less loud than I had ever seen a Fog show.
Lastly, J is NOT a prick, he is a very nice person, I have had a few conversations with him and found him to be very kind. but alas I seem to get him and other people born in December. I had a December boss for years and I just worship her and although she is now retired we still keep in touch but two of my co-workers from this job still harbor ill thoughts about her. My coworkers are a Cancer (Lou’s sign) and a Scorpio, they actually say they "hate" this beautiful woman. How do others see J a sagittarius, check out this web site and find out more….plug your sign into it and find out what others think of you……… ( okay, I know it is a bit goofy but it’s fun

Still, I’m stunned that Dinosaur Jr fans have these kind of complaints about the show. Everything described, whether it’s the show being loud, J not saying much, whatever is exactly what I expect from this band. I’d never even seen them live before this tour and I knew how it was going to be. It sounds like Lou was just having fun at the show, not being a prick. Granted I wasn’t there but I doubt he was trying to upset anyone.
The complaint about J’s signature is the lamest thing I’ve ever heard. That’s his signature, that’s how he always signs his name. I’ve never seen it any other way.
I’m sorry not everyone has enjoyed the shows as much as I have but I’d be a little more understanding if the criticisms were legitimate and not complaining about the volume or how much J says between songs.

Thats like going to a Yes concert and complaining about the songs being too long.
