I wanted to say with all that blabbering I did under the topic "Dead Confederate"
I did forget to state again that Murph is really doing a great job and…perhaps he can surf a cymbal but hes no cymbal crashing bam-bam. He’s got some things going on….this is from something I wrote today to a friend (talking again about Led Zeppelin)
and I think it’s true….

John Bonham…such intelligence, subtlety, grace and groove..and yet HARD on top of all that. I see so many Bam-Bams on drums these days…these kids should spend more time studying great drummers instead of video gaming in their spare time. John Bonham, I’ve heard, loved and listened to just about every style of music If a song is good, I dig it….I don’t care what genre it is. John had to have listened to the greats like Buddy Rich and Cozy Cole, and really studied them…because he brought that super fantastic, get your groove on drumming to hard rock and God Bless him, because it’s been a while since I’ve found someone that turns me on to the drums like he does when I listen to Led Zeppelin. This is the sort of stuff I believe John was listening to and he brought it into rock and roll.

If you get a chance to watch this video, I just want to say…Cozy Cole….in the end…..Toms and Floor Toms…instead of "cowbell"…… I’m thinking we need more Floor Toms….Cozy gets his "Cock Rock" on….I actually get a bit "high" when I watch this video…this must be the drum sound that "resonates" with me.

Those guys were pioneers in the jazz drumming field(and drumming in general).I really like a cat named Kenny Clarke who was very influential too.He left for Europe in the mid `50s and stayed there until his death in 1985:

Thanks SG, I really like the Kenny Clarke…I had never heard of him…love that song…I wish the video included the whole song. I also had not seen the Buddy Rich/Animal….that’s awsome….watching that video makes me want to go back in time and be 13 years old and really try drumming. I have the intellect or idea of what I would want to do as a drummer but unfortunately I seem to have the cordination of a two year old. Bummer.

Few trivia bits about Kenny Clarke:

-was married to singer Carmen McRae for a time
-was the original drummer for the Modern Jazz Quartet
-led a big band with pianist Francy Boland in Germany in the `60s/`70s(they had another drummer named Kenny Clare in the band which was cool:

Wow….that was smokin’ hot….that song is a little bit of a wild ride….perfect music for mopping floors today. Our driveway is a long dirt road…and we heat with wood…so the living room is filled with bark and twig debris…and dust…..and dirt tracked in from our our feet from the drive. Our dog goes and runs around in the woods and rolls in "dead stuff" from time to time and then comes back inside and lays down by the fire but she makes the house room smell bad. My kids are growing up like Abe Lincoln.

I love that sound…the horns…the drums…all of it.

Too bad the Clarke/Boland music did`nt see much release in America or Canada,they were mainly euro releases.One of my mentors in jazz knowledge used to play them on his radio show alot,I don`t think I would`ve gotten into them without him.He grew up during the swing era so this stuff was his thing.
