You pick an album that you think needs more attention and talk about it :)

      HUM-DOWNWARD IS HEAVENWARD(1998)

Like a mix of MBV,Slayer,Swervedriver, and Dino Jr.Metaly chunky guitars, geeky vocals, good songwriting. You can headbang and stare at your shoes :D Hum did other albums but nothing quite as focused as this.

Anything by Jimi Hendrix. Lots of poeple say he’s a great guitar player, but alot of them don’t really mean it. Plus he has an awesome voice.

that’s awesome. I’ve always maintained that Hendrix never got enough credit for his beautiful voice because people were so preoccupied with his guitar work.

          good call, as usual 8)

my pick is "Folk Songs" by Dexter Romweber (of the late great Flat Duo Jets). a collection of lo-fi recordings, some created in his mother’s bathroom. if you’re a true music fan you’ll find something to enjoy on this record, if you don’t enjoy the whole thing. you can hear all genres on this beauty, from classical piano to jazz, rockabilly, surf, and of course classic, dark rock & roll. the Jets remain one of my all-time favorites…get this album for a taste of all their influences.

Cool topic. I totally agree on everything thats been said about Hendrix. He was so talented, and most people just think of him as a good guitar player. Electric Ladyland is mind blowing. MachineGun is the most impressive guitar playing I’ve ever heard. No one even comes close to Hendrix on guitar.

As far as underrated albums, does comedy count? Bill Hicks is another person that is way underappreciated. Everything he put out was brilliant.

"Live at the Haunted House", by The Mermen would be my pick as an album that people should really give a listen. Anyone that loves guitar will be blown away by Jim Thomas’s playing. Some people might not be able to get into surf/instrumental music, but this album is a must for any guitar fans.

I was listening to Dexter Romweber the other day on yeproc`s site,You can hear a couple of songs here(in the media box on the left):

I agree Hendrix did`nt get enough credit for his voice.Or even his songwriting which some thought as just being dumb hippieness.Check out the lyrics to Castles Made Of Sand and you`ll realize he could write some good lyrics. One of my favorite Hendrix albums is Nine To The Universe. It`s mostly instrumental jamming. One track features jazz organist Larry Young which hints at the direction he might`ve taken if he lived.I was listening to blues guitarist Earl Hooker(John Lee`s cousin) the other day(a great record called Two Bugs And A Roach) and read that Hendrix played in his band for awhile when he was starting out.Earl was quite a master of wah wah and other pedals and he taught Jimi about them.

Hey Crazycloud, have you ever checked out Leatherface? If you like New Model Army you might be like them.NMA was obviously a big influence on them. The singer sounds like a mix of Lemmy from Motorhead,Bob Mould, and a pirate :) Mush from 1991 is the album to check out.

                    Sonic Youth – E.V.O.L

Ive mentioned this as my favorite several times in other places and had no recognition for it. People always favour Goo, Dirty or whatever but ive never seen anyone say this is their fav.

                          here’s another underrated album—>

                          mellow candle – swaddling songs

sweet vestle virgins sing some whirling arias,, my bloody valentine did a cover of one of the tunes on this one.. i’m not a flokie or anything and i still love this album.. id rank it up there with it’s a beautiiful day or the jefferson airplane in musical perfection.

how ’bout Warrior Soul’s album Last Decade Dead Century
i have always loved this album,, their other records get faded pretty fast, but this one rocks and rocks, i just love the kick ass vocals and the heavy power chords,, sort of like motley crue meets janes addicition with a political edge… i think thats what they were probably shooting for being on geffen records and all.. destined for the discount bin of doom i’m, afraid…Â

                                  ELEVENTH DREAM DAY-LIVED TO TELL(1991)

Yeah,I`ve talked about them before around here ;) The album before it Beet was held back by production despite good tunes. So on Lived To Tell they went to rural Kentucky and recorded in a barn on a farm.It worked out unfortunately the mastering was screwed up.Despite that, the guitar sound they got was fantastic. The songs ranged from slide guitar freakouts(Dream Of A Sleeping Sheep and Trouble)to REM-ish(North Of The Wasteland)to country tinged(It`s All A Game) to blues(Frozen Miles). It`s hard for me to smile from ear to ear and do some air guitar moves ;D while listening to this. It`s in my top 10 all time fave records for sure.
