Some of you might remember my complaints regarding living close to the american embassy, with the guards, high fences, flood lights and all that jazz. What most of you might not know is that I from time to time escape into the forest, to a farm in the middle of pretty much nowhere. Over the hills and far far away from asphalt, traffic lights and people playing r&b in the wee hours of the morning.
The nearest sign of anything resembling civilisation is a 40 minute drive away, so I had to pinch myself when the rumbling I had been wondering about suddenly materialized into a huge monster of a mobile home.
A track & field version of santa emerges from the truck.
      Sports Santa: Hi !
      Me: Uhh…
Sports Santa(with the worlds most enthusiastic and energetic voice): Are we still in norway ? The roads sure are narrow here, nowhere to turn around, so we just kept going. Saw the sign down by the river, hoped there would be someone at the end of the road that could tell us where we are and how to get away from here.
      Me: Ehh…
Then Mrs Claus came out of the truck, said they were lost, and hi I´m Rebecca, this motormouth is Joe and how are you ?
I was still doing the monosyllabic thing, so she went on to explain that they were from america, had 2 months off from work to drive around norway(Sports Santa gave the monster a pat on the hood and called it a beauty,) and are all these houses yours ?

Rebecca had an accordian, Sports Santa a guitar, they liked wine, and homemade strawberry jam. They helped me pick blackberries, raspberries, and some other red ones that I don´t know the english name for, and in the evenings we would sing and dance. Rebecca knew how to play the imperial march on the accordian(to impress her children years ago, and it sure worked on me as well.) The third day I asked if they wanted to stay in one of the houses on the farm for a couple of days, no ones using them anyways, and perhaps it could be a nice change ? It was, so they thanked and gave me a hug. I got lots of hugs during their 5 days there. Rebecca caught the biggest bass I´ve ever seen, Sports Santa and I both wished it was us that got it, but we did our best to loose with grace. We talked about girls with names that sounds like songs, the world heading up shit creek without a life west and who would make the best supreme emperor of the world(Ghandi, had he still been alive.) I promised to come visit them at lake minnetonka, and they promised to get lost all over again if they ever came back to norway.

I have 65 year old american friends, one of them plays the imperial march on the accordian, the other thinks that an obscenely large mobile home is a thing of beauty. They both give great hugs.

like, with bells ? cowbells ? because that would be a cool addition to the accordian imperial march.

Khmer of Solid Ether by Molvær ? If not, you should definetely give them a listen.
Bjørnstad is the kindest man that ever picked up an instrument.

Those are the best friends to have.

Could you make your car into a duplex so I could live there too?

                          Without a doubt.

And yes, I will most certainly turn it into a duplex and decorate a girl room for you. Any prefered color schemes ?

I´m sure he´ll be a charming neighbor. And I´ve decided to soundproof his appartment, just in case. By the way, do you know if he´s still seeing that bird ?

I’m not eggsactly sure, though has been very giddy lately. Now I’m really glad you’re soundproofing his apartment.
