but im not sure if i should go for J’s sig,62 reissue or a vintage one—im leaning on J’s but how does it sound compared to the reissues?
September 27, 2007 at 9:01 am #132098J’s Jazzmaster’s pickups are a little hotter than the American Vintage Reissues (in my opinion). J’s guitar sounds great. But its more than just the pickups that I like about his guitar. The jumbo frets are really nice and the craftmanship really seems top notch. I think either way you’ll be stoked, I’m just super pumped on my J Mascis Jazzmaster because I just got it.

September 27, 2007 at 9:51 am #132100One of the most attractive features – to me – of the J signature model is the bridge. I looked into buying a reissue Jazzmaster last year about this time, but people more knowledgeable about Jazzmasters told me that there is a problem with the bridge rattling or strings buzzing. Even the guitar store told me that the Jazzmaster would be a somewhat high-maintenance guitar, which concerned me. If I can get the money together this year, I would be much more likely to go for the J model. Not crazy about the color, but it’ll do.

Just replace it with a Mustang bridge or a tune-o-matic. Easier still just use higher gauge strings, thus creating more tension and holding the bridge tighter in place.
That being said the stock bridge on Jazzmasters and Jaguars are terrible. I think mine lasted a day before I just replaced it.
September 27, 2007 at 1:47 pm #132102the bridge isnt a HUUUUGE problem. definately dont let the bridge stop you from buying guitar. you can easily mod it to not rattle, buzz or be cuntish. but i actually like the stock bridge, only mine is a cij so its a little fucked up, might get a usa stock one soon…
get a vintage one or the j jazzmaster one. You’ll be like the only kid on the block that has it.
