i’ve never known for sure about the bands intake of substances. i know taht lou was an avid pot smoker as evidenced by poledo and the third sebadoh album. but what about the other members of the band? J seems to embody the stoner personality in music and physical appearance. just something i’ve been wondering about

agreed, but i think it’s a good question to ask. i’ve read a few places that J has been straightedge since his early teens. listening to some of the lyrics he writes, i find this hard to believe. also, the persona he’s cultivated over the years totally screams ‘i’m a huge stoner’.

i know lou likes to blaze. i saw sebadoh in 2004 and he and jason loewenstein were hitting a secret agent on stage disguised as a cigarette…

I thought that line was "Stunned" but there are many other "stoned" lyrics like in tell the truth – "I feel able when I’m stoned"

I think J was straight edge for many year but he started drinking and smoking again at one point.

i don’t understand straight-edge. i mean, if you can survive without drugs, alcohol, and "fucking" then good for you, but i just think it would be hurting yourself. have fun is all you need to do.

Someone posted on a Swervedriver forum that he exited the club’s backdoor after a Fog show (Schools/Spence) and walked past J and the fellas burning one in the parking lot. They waved at him.

And just because someone smokes a little weed now and then — even daily — doesn’t make him/her a stoner. To me, being a stoner involves a wake-and-bake and regular recharges throughout the day, but maybe my standards for stonerdom are higher (har har) than many people’s.

Meh, anything that isn’t food or water that you ingest that affects you is a drug. Caffeine is a god damn drug.

and i would be surprised if J doesnt smoke… lou and murph i am basically sure of.

I know for a fact that Lou still smokes the green. Not sure about Murph, although he used to be a stoner. I know J has gotten high and drank in the past. Not so sure now. I saw him nursing a beer in Boston at their shows in December of ’05. Other than that I don’t know. I have heard some rumors that J had a booze problem. I guess that would explain the large belly and skinny legs. I mean look at the man for Christ’s sake! He’s gained a lot of weight and he looks like shit. J’s gotta get his shit together or he’ll have a heart attack in the middle of a show.
