This August I sorta started seeing this girl who liked Mogwai and such. So I started buying Punk right and left. I don’t know why I’m telling you this now. The point is, I currently own the following "essential" punk/hardcore albums:
Punk
The Buzzcocks-A Different Kind of Tension
The Buzzcocks-Singles Going Steady (burned)
The Clash-London’s Calling (burned)
The Damned-Damned Damned Damned
The Descendents-Two Things at Once
The Replacements-Let it Be (is this punk?)
Television-Marquee Moon
Undertones-The Undertones
X-Los Angeles
X-Wild Gift
X Ray Spex-Germfree AdolescentsHardcore:
Fugazi-13 Songs
Minutemen-Double Nickles on the Dime
Refused-Shape of Punk to Come
Rites of Spring-End on EndI know I probably need:
Black Flag-Damaged
The Clash-The Clash (have it on a tape dupe)
Fugazi-Repeater
The Jam-This Modern World
Minor Threat-Complete Recordings
The Ramones-Rocket to Russia
The Replacements-TimIs there anything important/damned good I’m missing here? Please fill me in on anything really important. I’m not a big fan of "Greatest Hits" collections, but collected recordings are OK.

:aliensmile:No seriously, you need some super smacked out JESUS LIZARD to go in your hardcore section…
And how about some MOIST BOYS, maybe not so "punkish" but just as smacked out and hardcore sounding as any Jesus Lizard or Fugazi…
ooh, ooh, ooh…don’t forget the Ray Conniff Christmas Caroling CD…Guaranteed to score big points with the lady (you’ll thank me when you’re kidkin’ it w/ her by an open fire this winter w/ this in the background
)

September 4, 2003 at 3:59 am #96004Some suggestions for ya,
hardcore – Poison Idea – Feel The Darkness
-a must have for the hardcore fan, an outstanding album!punk
How about Sex Pistols Never Mind The Bullocks Here’s…Also, Millencolin – Life On A Plate.
-The Best swedish punk band since Ebba Grön.
Check out http://www.millencolin.com/music/”>http://www.millencolin.com/music/ and download bullion from life on a plate. Their first album, Same Old Tunes are also good. If you really wanna impress you’ll get hold of the first pressing of the debut album, originally titled Tiny tunes, but due to some legal hassle from WB or who ever owns the tiny tune name they changed it to same old tunes.A good place to check out some great punk bands, and get some sweet mp3’s are http://www.burningheart.com/”>http://www.burningheart.com/

Geeze, this list is getting huge. Keep coming. But first man to mention the Blatz gets a good :slap:

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. Your logic was lacking though. Girl likes Mogwai therefore you start buying punk right and left?
That’s what you wrote, man. I just think you were trying to show off!
The Jam-All Mod Cons
Modern Lovers–Modern Lovers (your life cannot be complete without "Roadrunner")
Get some Gang of Four if you can find it–awesome shit!
Dictators–Go Girl Crazy!
Yeah, and Hypnotized by the Undertones too…
Inflammable Material–Stiff Little Fingers
And I second Allison on the Only Ones!!
Drive Like Jehu????
September 4, 2003 at 8:56 pm #96012It isn’t a snob thing, I just go through musical phases, I apparently started a punk phase because of overexposure to swirly music.
I have Hypnotised. I freakin’ love the Undertones.
Drive Like Jehu is awesome. That’ll have to be bumped up the list.

…the way I read it, you were trying to impress this girl by showing her your musical tastes and diversity, and knowledge of various artists…thus trying to IMPRESS HER by buying a crapload of different CD’s.C’mon dude…Ray Conniff
…it’s a joke
The trouble w/ type is…it’s so hard to denote sarcasm!I 3rd The Only Ones
And similar to The Only Ones…
-The Jesus and Mary Chain
-Throwing MusesSeptember 5, 2003 at 11:41 am #96014DRIVE LIKE JEHU!!! YEAH!!
get Yank Crime!
ROME PLOWS ROME PLOWS ROME PLOWS!!!!
The Jam`s early albums are being reissued so get them while the sale price is on!I plan to

The first song on Mogwai`s Come On Die Young album is called punk rock

I second Kurtis` Throwing Muses suggestion;get In A Doghouse(a double disc comp of their first album,an ep,an early cassette, and unreleased songs) and The Real Ramona. The Muses are kinda of the missing link between the Raincoats and Sleater Kinney.Oh yeah, get some Raincoats too,the first album(self titled) is great.

What’s the lowdown on this? They are all still damn expensive online…import prices…. When are the reissues coming? I was going to order the rest from hmv.co.uk because they were all on sale for 5 pounds but I waited too long and the sale ended!

the Raincoats are so charming, especially their first album is wonderful. It’s not exactly "punk", but it’s definitely worth checking out
