I know that practically no one here but me likes Hendrix but me, but he, and Pink Floyd use the same effect and I want to know what it is. Hendrix used the effect on the National Anthem, and Pink Floyd used it on Speak to me/Breathe (the first guitar part you hear, is it. It kind of sounds like a phase, flange, or really slow heavy chorus or something.
Hey RJ
I like Hendrix,my guess would be a flanger.
If you ever see Hendrix`s album Nine To The Universe around, check that out, lots of great guitar playing, including some jamming with jazz organist Larry Young.
Hendrix never used a flanger that I know of. The effects that he used are as follows: fuzz face(distortion), Vox Wah Wah, an Octavia(octave fuzz type thing), and a Univibe (rotating speaker/chorus whatsit). combine with a strat and two cranked 100 watt marshalls and that’s it.
Hendrix used it pretty much through the whole song. He used it in a lot of his songs, but as far a flange and wah goes, they dont produce that sound, so it may be phase. Speaking of phase, there was this older Ovation A/E in the local geetar shop and the guys told me it had some mods to it. I plugged it in just to see what had been done and it sounded ok but then I fliped a mini toggle and it was like a phase pedal. The tone knob pulled out and was a rate pot as well. Blew my mind. The thing was only $300 I shouldve nabbed it, but instead I bought something Ive since stupidly traded.
Hendrix uses a univibe rotary speaker simulator to make wobbly guitar sounds. It isn’t any of the other pedals he has, coz they’re just fuzz, wah and an octaver.
