ok, ill admit it, i only purchased YLAOM and WYB, the rest were downloaded, and, ive had all but Hand It Over…until now. What happened? In My opinion, WAS is one of the best Cds. Actually, i didnt have one Dino song i didnt like….then 3 years later they come up with trumpety banjoey crazy shit that i have no want to listen to. Its actually makin me like Dinosaur Jr less.
Is there a special trick to enjoying Hand it over(besides getting stoned) that will ease me into it, or is everyone dissapointed with the record?
Without A Sound is the disappointing one in my book(though it certainly is`nt awful),Hand It Over was a comeback.
How could you not like Alone?It`s one of J`s best solos.Never Bought It rules,I`m Insane makes me headbang the walls
and damn I like trumpets 
Sure Not Over You is a classic miss ya song,listen to the fucking strings in Can`t We Move This Along,… I could go on.It might not be J`s strongest work but the songs do stick after you give it a chance.Hand it Over is one of my favorites.
I just start it at track 01 and let it play through.
Starting it with Alone, or Gettin’ Rough or Never Bought It, any of those are okits a different, and extremly under-appreciated record. it doesn’t have the sheer brilliance like some of their albums, but fuck, they’re good songs.
with WAS J was moving towards this mature pastoral pop sound (some say Boring…, but to me it sounds like he put more time into the lyrics on that one) but then Hand it Over was kind of goofy in comparison, a lot more fun. I’m insane, never bought it, mick, i know yr insane, getting rough, and gotta know are all gold in my book. I think the only week track is Loaded but that has some cool guitar sounds at least. I think J uses the falsetto voice a little too much on that album, so maybe that’s what’s turning our boy here off?
that being said, i like to speculate where J’s sound would have evolved to if the fan and critical reception to Without a Sound would have been better. Maybe he’d be making albums like Neil Young’s Prarie Wind now?
Hand It Over is definetly not my favorite album either.. I don’t hate, but I rarely listen to it and even then I find myself skipping around to hear just a few tracks. My favorite on that CD would probably be Sure Not Over You

For a long time it was the only one I really liked on the album, but now I regard the album as a whole pretty highly, even though there’s something tired-sounding about it.
Clearly there are a lot of people with alcohol related injuries here. Hand It Over is great. How can you not like never bought it, I´m insane & the banjo kicks ass ! And not just regular ass mind you.
Can’t we move this and Mick rule. Though it isn’t my favorite dinosaur record, its still pretty good. Give it another chance I bet in the end it will grow on you.

Still, Alone, Loaded, Gotta Know, Sure Not Over You are all worth it.
Im actually startin to like it better. I think when i slept with the cd on repeat it did some weird subliminal shit. I was kinda like this with Bug at first n thats my fav now so….

I remember when WAS came out.The record store had it out near the paying counter with all the other hot releases of the time.Maybe saying that Dino were goin to be the next big thing?When HIO came out it was just stuck in the Dino section next to Celine Dion and Dire Straits,not much promo there.

That’s because Sire fucked the band after WAS didn’t perform up to the expectations set by WYB. Hell, the label dropped them when they were 2/3 the way through a second leg of touring the US for HIO, and they had to drag their asses through the remaining shows with that weighing on them. Nice, huh? I saw the second-to-last show on that tour, which was the second-to-last Berz/Johnson show ever, and they still killed it, but after they played Feel the Pain the crowd started to thin, and by the time they came back for an encore there were probably only about 30 people left out of the 300 or so that the show started with. A friend I went with, who didn’t really know much about Dino at the time, still talks about the look of dismay and disbelief on George’s face when he looked out at the place and saw how few people stuck around for the encore. The curse of having a radio hit, I guess — the sheep who only follow what the radio deems "popular" have no interest in the other 99% of a band’s music. The late-’90s were a rough time for a lot of those bands who experienced a momentary spike in popularity after the Nirvana phenomenon — if they didn’t fall apart because of horrible drug problems, they got unceremoniously booted by the majors for not selling enough.

i couldnt have said it any better.and yeah that is sad when someone only likes a band for that one song.also about them going down hill on those albums i think they were just trying to expand and some bands do well and others just cant pull it off.i for one feel that all dinosaur jr. material is great i love when i put on their albums i get a different feel from each one not many bands can do that and that to me is a great band.
