OK, enough with the kiddee stuff. Mexican strats are never going to cut it, if you want to sound like J.
I have a serious question, to anyone who has either seen J in concert or has a copy of ‘green mind’ handy.
What Les Paul does J play? It is a gold top, with P-90’s, but I was just inquiring into what was the exact model name…is it a standard, deluxe, classic.???
Someone please helop
//////////Tt.I don’t know for sure which model J’s is, but there is an Epiphone in a recent copy of Musician’s Friend that looks just like it (P-90s and all.) It’s labled as "Epiphone Les Paul ’56" so maybe J has an original ’56 Gibson model. I’ve yet to locate a more recent Gibson equivalent, though.

"If you can’t pay money… At least pay attention!" – My Dadyeah..I know about epiphone, and the gold top re-issues…but reissues are by and large, crap, and epiphones are some of the worst guitars a young man could put his hands on…stay away from epiphones, except for the Casino model, that one is half decent…but I was wondering what guitar is in the art work sleeve of green mind…is it a gold top? does it have p-90’s? I know it is leaning against a white tolex marshall JTM45 or something..and we know that J doesn’t play epiphones…Does anyone know about what kind of Gibson’s J plays???
//////////Tt.Hey, I happen to have owned serveral Epi’s and my current ones play great! I’m not saying I wouldn’t rather have something more expensive, but I don’t. Anyone reading this: Don’t hesitate buying an Epiphone. You might want to have a guru set up the action and stuff for you, but after that it will play as well as anything else. Off the rack theY are not, shall we say, optimized.

As far as i know, j uses 2 gold tops…
one is a standard w p90’s
the other is ancient with the trapeze type bridge fitted to it (very unusual for this type of guitar) it’s rumoured that it was one of the first 50 les pauls ever made….

Epiphones are a terrible guitar IMHO. I never heard one that sounded good. Go gibson or go with something else. I’d rather have a hammer low end Les Paul Copy than an Epiphone
Not doing that finei think he´s got a les paul jr.
they are very cool with those wonderful pickups and a slightly more echoed body soundin more hollow , i really dig those and i think he´s got a pretty cool sg too, but i know he think that the gibson sound has to few variations in the sound and i can only agree there but i love my standard les paul for the more solid playin and the jazzmaster for the more freestyled playin where you need more possibilities…

In the 1997 June issue of Maximum Guitar J revealed a large part of his guitar+gear collection. There were some Gibsons: Les Paul Jr, the one w/the trapeze tailpiece (a ’59, if my recollection is right), and some other ones as well. If someone out there wants to know the excact models, I can dig out my copy of the mag and post the information here, ok?
