It is a great album, I was talking to James at the last gig they played here in chicago, he told me they were over budget on that record even before they finished overdubs. so on hurrah they tracked and mixed it all themselves for a fraction of the cost. You can hear the sonic difference, but the songs are so good it really doesn’t bother me.
I’m looking forward to their next effort.p.s. I really like the afgan whigs, i would love to hear dulli do the supremes. alas AG doesn’t support macs yet

Matty-yeah,Two Cents Plus Tax does sound like a big budget record,great sound they got,Hurrah does sound pretty good as well,cool that it cost them less.On the Deep Red ep they cut it in a book store I think(Rare Book Room in NYC,is it a book store?Cat Power recorded there as well)you could tell it was`nt a big budget deal but it worked.I like bands recording in weird places like Eleventh Dream Day recorded one of their records in a barn on a farm in Kentucky.Can`t wait for the next Versus album,hopefully they`ll have one out soon.
If you want to check out the Whigs doing their motown thing,the What Jail Is Like ep had that Supremes song I mentioned,as well as a great cover of Dark End Of The Street.Also check out the Uptown Avondale ep which has covers of Al Green,Freda Payne,as well as the Supremes songs.

Fugazi–the Argument–I said I didn’t like it when I first got it, because it wasn’t a Fugazi disk. And its not. Its better.

I have the Henry`s Dress self titled album too,did`nt think too many people heard of them,they were from New Mexico,which does`nt seem the place for indie rock,problably why they moved to California.They kinda remind me of Eric`s Trip;definitely stuff to drive your neighbours nuts <img>Henry’s Dress was in a documentry about indie/DIY/post-punk bands called Songs for Cassevettes. Also featured are Sleater-Kinney, Dub Narcotic, and Unwound. Truely worth a watch. Henry’s Dress is awesome, totally loud yet insanely infectous. I am getting a copy of "Bust ’em Green" in the mail. Its supposed to be even better.
