Hey,

Don’t think I have seen this around for awhile so thought I might start it up again. What are the last five discs you listened to…and why…if you feel like answering. Music to me is energizing, if I turn on the right song…bang zoom I can be wide awake and ready to go.

I mean non Dino/J discs, I am assuming we all shuffle thru those daily and love them all to death…come on be honest you do

Here’s mine

The Hydromatics….Parts Unknown, really only listen to the 1st 3 songs…very cool, some may call them a Sonics revival band but with Scott Morgan in the band who cares what they label it as…other than just plain rocking!!! Valentine Frankenstein…great song with a killer line….with a criminal brain I’m easy to blame…you can’t keep a good monster down…how can you not like that song???

Beaster…Sugar EP….road trip music…what a great association to have…Tilted what a song

Modest Mouse…Building something out of nothing….like about half of this one, have a hard time not laughing at the faces my husband makes when I play this one…he hates them…go figure

Grant Hart…Intolerance…All My Senses, Now That You Know Me, Come Come…if i don’t hear those every couple of days shit starts to happen…very grounding

Hellacopters..Flight Case Limited Edition Ep…Hopeless Case of a Kid in Denial…great lines…I make my mind up right after I speak…been there Great videos as well, tons of guitar posturing but in the MC5/Sonics way so very cool with me.

Sorry about the length but hey what can you do….edit I guess but to0 lazy

so fill me in on whats happening for you,

Allison

ps since Joey left I make a point of playing a Joey/Ramones tune daily as a tribute…todays song is I’ll Be With You….22 Jacks with Joey on vocals of course…great ending the kind of song you close your eyes and spin around to…

This is a hard question to answer… At home I’m in the process of mp3ing ALL of my CDs… Why, because I have a 13GB harddrive with nothin’ better to put on it (my main HD is 40GB ) So, anyway, what I’v been doing is dumping the entire 4Gigs or so that I have so far into one giant playlist in Winamp and hitting the random button. It’s like having my own personal radio station that only plays songs I like…

Oh well, the car’s a different story, here goes…

Modest Mouse: The Moon and Antarctica

Man…Or Astroman?: Made From Technicium (I think I spelled that right )

Spin Doctors: Pocket Full of Kryptonite (saw them on an SNL rerun the other day, had to pull the CD out of storage. Forgot how good they are / were?!)

Subrosa: Never Bet The Devil Your Head (Awesome band from Gainsville, FL. I think it’s availible in cheap bens across the nation Check it out…)

The Dead Milkmen: Beelzebubba (Because I’m twisted! )

So much good stuff to listen to… I might have to post to this thread again after the next 5 I listen to…

PS: Allison, it looks like both of us are in the habit of staying up waaay too late.

Hey Mighty Brainiac,

Who needs sleep when you have caffeinated peppermints….and 15 days off…very cool.

Great selection of tunes, looking forward to your following five…think I could probably post five every 3 hrs or so…but I won’t

Allison love the new smilies

That’s cool, I’ve got a couple weeks off too…

Between jobs, got a guarenteed position at a local music (instruments) store if I want it, but I’m looking for something more career wise, so it’s time to switch to interview mode.

I graduate in December!!!

Anyhoo, glad you like the smileys. I’ve got more when I get around to installing them…

I’m with you on the every 3 hours thing. Too much music in my life (if one can have such a thing… )

…Sleep is for the weak!!!

Hey,

Are you sure you want to shift to interview mode during the summer….kinda nice to have time off. Whoops you live in a perpetual summer unlike myself. I have a couple weeks off every month thru the summer…definitely works for me!!!

You can never have too much music in your life..just to much other stuff. Distractions are going to be my focus over the summer…in a big way

Allison…motor skills fading but will ingest more caffeine…or something or maybe I should give in to the need for sleep…yeah right

Millencolin – Live at Hultsfred 2000
-makes my car go faster

The Hives – Veni Vidi Vicous
-fast, loud, cool lyrics and kick-ass mentality. Need I say more?

Pavement – Slanted and Enchanted
-one of my top 3 albums

The Presidents Of The U.S.A.(self titled)
-this album should’ve been called :it’s summer, now have some fun!

Violent Femmes(self titled)
-let me go on like I blister in the sun!
from the opening to the end, this is(to me) the soundtrack of a summer.

Ramones – Hey Ho Let’s Go(anthology)
-you’re with friends, you got beer, you wanna party.

Jeff Buckley – Grace
-for the mellow summer night.

Grandaddy – The Sophtware Slump
-same as above.

Guess I exceeded the limit a bit…but I had to get them all up here.

Great topic Allison!

You guys are up late!!!! I am very jelous of those days off, I hope you guys are making the most of ’em!

What I’ve been listening too (non-dino)…

1) At The Drive-In – Relationship Of Command
*I just think this is a great rock record. Have not heard any of their earlier stuff though. Makes for a FAST drive into work
Maybe too fast *looks at warning ticket*

2) Modest Mouse – This Is A Long Drive For Someone with Nothing to Think About
* This is a long title to type for someone that is at work Don’t even know where to begin. Nearly perfect.
Allison, my wife hates them too but I get the same twisted pleasure from watching her face when she is in my car

3) Built to Spill – Keep It Like A Secret
* Carry the Zero & Broken Chairs are tied for my fave tracks on the album. BC is a great whistle along tune

4) Pavement – Westing (By Musket & Sextant)
* Break this out every summer. I spent a couple weeks making my own cover of this whole album in my bedroom at one point with a shitty epiphone Les Paul jr, 2 small amps (mutated by myself), my old Vestor Bass (a short lived but kick ass guitar company owned by Gene Simmons), drum samples on a keyboard and some cheap ass mics. Lo-fi indeed. Always takes me back…
"I’m taking the next bus outta here
I’m gonna head to Box Elder, MO"

5) RZA – RZA as Bobby Digital in Stereo-
* This album cracks me up but the line that takes the cake for me is when ODB starts talking about "triple breed M.F.’s"
That is just too much
Probably my favorite rap Producer/Engineer although Ice Cube is still my favorite rapper (if you can forgive him for that Korn stuff ). Speaking of which, did you know the Del the Funky Homosapian is Ice Cube’s cousin which brings yet another 6 degrees of J Mascis down to 2.

also, like Mattman I have many, many mp3s from my cds and such that I have archived to cdr. The Complete Ramones collection, Complete Dino + 2 vols of bootlegs, Complete Sonic Youth and various others. This helps get me throught the work day!!!!!

better get back to work

damn I miss my bass….

Okay, I think I can share in this one:

1. More Light – J Mascis and the Fog (if I needed to mention) A CD of great energy for me. My player was stuck on Same Day for about a week, now its Does the Kiss Fit, some times Ground me to you kicks in followed by Ammaring. It’s just a wonderful album, sorry to my other dinosaur cd’s that have been put on the back burner because of More Light.

2. 80’s compilation from Napster. Cruel Summer (Karate Kid) by BanannaRama is my summer song this year and on the CD, also in tow are De Comasar — don’t know the artist but all you over 25 should know the song. Got to have Rumors, then Sister Christian by Night Ranger, Message in a Bottle — Police, then Josie by The Outfield, and of course Rock the Casbah by The Clash, and about a half dozen more…

3. Ben Harper – Burning to Shine
It’s a musician a friend chic turned me on too. He really does jam and not scared to drag his songs out for over 5 minutes, which is good and bad.

4. Keeblin– Dinosaur Jr.
Live CD got from a trade, great songs. Feel the Pain, Get me and What Else is New. Right ON!!!! Thanks DJM.

5. Built to Spill — Keep it a Secret.
I picked up this band in 99 after seeing them rock on HBO’s Reverb. The really Jam out. The Plan is the song. Broken Chairs, not sure of the title but "you’re wrong when…", and another I am not sure of the title but has a jam before the words begin #6 I guess.

So much for that list… I only get to listen to music when I am in my ride. My brother has my stereo at his house, there are no speakers on my computer at work, and I never get on the CPU because it always late when I get there. Unlike Another girl and Mattman, I need to get some sleep because work consumes me. I have litte time for other things. Spare time, I wish. I side with Jeremiah, I am jealous of you twos down time… Ahhh School life was great.
