October 22, 2001 at 1:37 pm #66743Spooky… I’ve been listening to Psychocandy lately to. Since we’re both listening to it so close to Halloween, we probably outta test it out to see if it has a zombie fighting affect…
Here are some others I’ve been listening to…
Husker Du, Warehouse: Songs & Stories. If I were to try to convert someone to Husker Du, I’d probably start with this album. With Mould and Hart trying to out write eachother, sure made for some very good tunes.
Dismemberment Plan, Emergency & I. Definitely an interesting style here. Standard indie rockin’ with a good measure of electronic stuff mixed in here and there. Worth checking out.
fIREHOSE, If’n. Well, its Watt… Dammit!
Arab Strap, Elephant Shoe. For when you need to hear some guy mumbling sarcastic lyrics about love, relationships, etc. in a very heavy Scottish accent, to the tune of acoustic guitars and drum machines.
October 22, 2001 at 3:38 pm #66744I put Psychocandy in my cd player this morning,I`ve been listening to it alot since I bought it in August.
Here`s some from me:
Modest Mouse-The Lonesome Crowded West-the best album they`ve done so far,it`s gonna be hard to top it,lots of great songs.Gillian Welch-Time(The Revelator)-if you have`nt heard her yet,it`s a mix of folk, bluegrass, and blues;great album, mournful acoustic stuff,my fav song is Apr 14th part 1 which reminds me of Neil Young`s Cortez The Killer a little bit,she ties Lincoln`s asassination, the sinking of the Titanic, and the dust bowl with something about a band from Idaho.
Sparklehorse-It`s A wonderful Life-another cool album, the 2 songs with PJ Harvey impress me the most,Nina from the Cardigans does some back up singing as well, she and Mark from Sparklehorse have an album out now under the name A Camp, den buck mentioned it awhile ago.I also heard Mark teamed up with Daniel Johnston recently and there might be a collaboration with Kristin Hersh too.
October 23, 2001 at 3:44 am #66745The CD’s that I have been enjoying recently….
Dinosaur Jr. – Without a Sound (Great work)
Flipper – American Grafishy
Melvins – Houdini
Murder City Devils – Thelema…and of course my NIRVANA bootlegs…I will always love them

So I Can Make Some Best-Of’s of that Little ManOctober 23, 2001 at 4:40 pm #66747Hey Spaceboy
There`s an album that came out a few months ago by Dump,it`s James Mc New from Yo La Tengo,it`s all Prince songs,it`s called The Skinny Motherf*cker With The High Voice, audiogalaxy has some songs from it,you might want to check that out if your computer`s playing mp3`s ok again.October 24, 2001 at 2:15 am #66748Salamiguy wrote:

I saw them live a couple of weeks ago, alas, no Mark Linkous in their live line-up, but they were great, and ended the show with a beautiful cover of Neil Young’s ‘On the beach’. I’m now the proud owner of Nina’s setlist from that gig…..

November 4, 2001 at 3:10 am #66750‘Tings been kinda quiet around here lately, so I guess I would ramble a bit…..
Went used CD shopping yesterday. Found an interesting mix:
Joe Jackson–Summer in the City (Live In New York)
I have liked ol’ Joe since he was on MTV at its onset with songs like Steppin’ Out. Dude can flat play piano. He did covers of the title track, "Eleanor Rigby", and had "For Your Love" in one of 3 medleys.
Best tunes: "King of the World" and "One More Time". A good find for 5 bucks.Pussy Galore–Corpse Love The First Year
Never heard these folks before today. Always liked Royal Trux and what little I had heard from Jon Spencer was good. This album will need digesting. It is raw and the commentary is pretty funny at times.Sparklehorse-VIVADIXIESUBMARINETRANSMISSIONPLOT
On yawls suggestion, checked these guys out. Not bad. Sounds a lot like Flaming Lips but I need another listen or two to bring out the textures here, I think. Seems to be a lot beneath the surface.
Sky Cries Mary– Return to the Inner Experience
Bought this for the 1st time when it came out in 1993. Good music for tripping. I don’t trip anymore but this is still good for orbits and escapes. Nice cover of the Rolling Stones "2000 Light Years From Home".
Lemonheads– Come on Feel The Lemonheads.
Bought this so I can again learn how to preen
Nah, I always liked this album. Good songwriting and the country twinges are nice, along with having a lot of Juliana Hatfield singing on it.
Put this on cassette tape for the car and am recording Hatfield’s "Become What You Are" on the flipside. Both fit on one 90 minute, thank goodness.Tom

November 4, 2001 at 7:56 am #66751In the cd-player of my computer right now:
The House of Love – Best of
picked this out of the bargain bins of my local record store for a few guilders (about 4 US dollars….) Great compilation of one of the most underrated bands of the late 80’s, has stood the test of time remarkably well!Half-Man, glad you like Sparklehorse!
Used to like Joe Jackson as well, but lost sight of him somewhere, until a friend of mine who works in a record store gave me the promotional copy (no case, just a simple sleeve, and no info) of the ‘Summer in the City (live in NYC)’ an I liked that a lot. I then checked out some his later stuff, and was quite disappointed to discover that I hadn’t missed anything worthwile!November 4, 2001 at 10:58 am #66752Hey,
Geez I need some sleep, posted my initial deal in the wrong spot

Grant Harts voice , kills me every time I hear him absolutely amazing

November 5, 2001 at 4:40 pm #66753Listening to alot of stuff as usual, here`s the current 5:
Hope Sandoval And The Warm Inventions-Bavarian Fruit Bread-just listened to it once, beautiful album,if you liked Mazzy Star you won`t be disapointed, much in the same vein, recommended if you like slow/sad acoustic stuff.
Orange Glass-Underwater Underground-local one man band-Ron Bates;used to be in Eric`s Trip in the early days;good indie rock stuff, short album though-30 minutes long, cool nonetheless.
Versus-Hurrah-one of my all time fav bands, never got the recognition similar bands like Yo La Tengo got(who they toured with last year with Sleater Kinney)they have`nt announced that they broke up but I suspect they have, great songs and male/female vocals.
White Stripes-White Blood Cells-cool brother/sister duo from Detroit, one of those bands that you can hear the history of rock and roll in their tunes,Jack White`s voice can go from Paul Mc Cartney to Robert Plant to Frank Black from song to song."Hotel Yorba" is a cool tune, reminds me of Railroad Jerk.
Mercury Rev-All Is Dream-lots of good songs on this album, really like this band,10 years since their first album and they`re still making great albums.
Donahue`s voice reminds me of Neil Young when he sings in falsetto.November 21, 2001 at 3:53 pm #66754Here`s what I`ve been listening to recently:
Eleventh Dream Day-El Moodio-one of my fav bands, this 1993 album is as good as all the other stuff they`ve done;cool guitar solos,male/female harmonies all done in a Neil Young/VU/Television/X style(I heard that in live shows they cover X`s"Los Angeles")one of the most underated bands around, they`ve been at it for about 20 years, they don`t tour much or do too many live gigs and are busy with their other projects(Rick has played with Will Oldham and Red Red Meat,Janet with Freakwater,Doug with Tortoise/For Carnation/Brokeback).
Versus-Secret Swingers-another fav band of mine,I mentioned their Hurrah album last time, always dig their music, this album is as good as their other albums.I heard that they might have broken up,sure hope not.
Roland Kirk-Domino-awesome jazz album,I was talking about him the other day and forgot that on top of being able to play 3 saxes and a flute at the same time and a paralyzing stroke near the end of his life,he was also blind. In later years he recorded alot of motown songs because he dug the melodies, his albums were always fun and unpredictable.
November 23, 2001 at 10:16 am #66755Got my copy of Just Like Heaven on vinyl(clear blue ) yesterday and it’s been spinning ever since…
Titan -Corazon -great mexican band!
Turbonegro -Darkness Forever! Between the lines in Hamburg and Oslo
The White Stripes -White Blood Cells -one of the best albums of 01.
November 23, 2001 at 10:53 am #66756Sparklehorse…vivadixie…etc etc, great disc. Hope you’ve had a chance to listen to it a couple times halfman…very cool songs.
Modest Mouse…Everywhere and his Dirty Parlour Tricks…just a couple new songs but cool to have them all together on a disc.
Mercury Rev…Boces…very cool sounds,
Radio Birdman…The Essential RB disc…gotta love those cool songs, still can’t get enuf of Hangin On
