I don’t drink beer too often because it’s the one alcohol that really upsets my tummy, but when I do, I prefer:
Widmer Hefeweizen
Pilsner Urquell
Sam Adams Summer AleI also really like Amber Bock (I think Michelob makes it) even though no one else agrees with me, haha.
January 19, 2007 at 12:16 pm #124857Remembering which beer is good is quite hard, the better it is the more you drink it and so on. But when you are out drinking only one(1!) beer there are some favourites.
-Franziskaner dunkel along with many other beers from Bayern.
-Paulaner
-Sandells
-Olvi/Lapin Kulta
-Zipfer(Austria)By the way, does anyone agree with me about Carlsberg being the most overrated beer in the world? I think it is like beer with water or something and even if it’s ice cold, it still tastes as warm beer.

I think carlsberg is tailored to suit the american market, as I find most american beer to taste….nothing.
January 19, 2007 at 1:13 pm #124859I think we need one thread for lagers, one for stouts, one for weissbier, one for trappists etc etc… how can you make a list of only five beers??

With that said, I really wish I could remember that incredible weissbier….crap. Russian Imperial is a decent stout though.January 19, 2007 at 1:44 pm #124861here’s my top 5! i like the stouts mostly…
1.Guiness – Always
2.Rogue Shakespeare Stout – the best american stout!
3.Abita Turbo Dog- what is it, a porter or a stout ? dont care tastes great
4.Tommyknocker Maple Porter- the best beer hands down made in colorady.. warning.. after a kegger of this there will be a line at the bathroom door in the morning.. thatll be the Johnnyknocker Maple Runs
5. Grolsch – My favorite Pilsner, plus it comes in the cool ass bottler, and easier to find then most of these…runner up —-
Rasputin Stout – good strong stout with a snap to it

But as I said in the #5 spot of my first post, there is a huge market growing in america of very very very good beer.

I’m too lazy to start a new topic about whisk(e)ys, and this is the "when out on town" -topic. So what do you think about the waters of god?

-Johnny Walker -labels. I think the Johnny Walker blended series is all high quality, even the red label which is not so expensive. I don’t know if I was all hyped up about tasting the blue label, which is the finest johnny w., but it was great maybe the best I’ve tried(sooo smooth). Atleast the best blended.
-Laphroaig. I’ve only tasted the 10 years old single malt and that was great.
-Glenfiddich 12 yrs. Also a good one!-Balvenie. I’m not really sure about the exact name or age of this whiskey, but it was also a really smooth experience.. Hopefully I get to try it again!
-Jack Daniels. I don’t think this tastes especially good, but drinking it feels like being Axl Rose, who drank one bottle a day during his ‘wild years’…
January 20, 2007 at 12:57 pm #124865I can’t drink beer much anymore because it is not conducive to keeping weight off.
When one is younger they tend to do things like walk around town for hours, climb over fences and barricades. In college I was too poor to eat much, spending what little money you have on a chunk of hash, then Running from the law (on foot) so you don’t have to give the hash up, and the wild one hour sex sessions………..things that make you able to drink beer and still stay fit….but after 40, beer is a bad idea.and ANY liquor with color in it is bad, bad, bad for your liver after a certain age. I used to drink Jack Daniels but not anymore, it’s toxic for the liver, really. I don’t drink often but when I do it’s high quality tequila. How to chose high quality is…
* NEVER buy a tequila that you have seen advertised anywhere. Most of these brands spend so much on advertising, that they skimp on quality.
* Look on the label for "100% AGAVE". If this is not on the label, DO NOT buy the bottle! This means that the "tequila" in the bottle is not really tequila. It’s a mix of tequila and may contain either water, sugar, artificial this, artificial that, etc…
* Make sure that the tequila is made in Mexico. "Made" is "Hecho" in Spanish, either of these will do.
* Try anything within these criteria, find the one you like the best, enjoy!A good bottle will cost from $40. and upwards but it’s worth it.
January 23, 2007 at 5:33 pm #124866There was a really good show on TLC or Discovery the other night all about distilling.
I couldn’t remember what "agave" was called. Thanks.
Ahh, Saturday night…started with a 16oz o’ budlight, moved on to some proper 22oz Bass, then finished off with 4-5 MillerLight tallboys. What a mix!!!
The tallboys are good cuz they sneak an extra 4oz in on ya. Drink 3 and really you’ve had 4. HAHAHHAHA

February 17, 2007 at 1:23 pm #124869Hey dumbass, I’ve just decided that we have to meet up sometime to drink beer. I will bring Indian Pale Ale and bitters from two norwegian micro breweries, you will promise not to bring anything associated with Millers.
February 17, 2007 at 2:29 pm #124870Brooklyn Lager or Fuller’s ESB, if I’m at one of two places I tend to frequent, and am settling in for the long haul.
Whatever micros or Brit beers are on tap in a given place that tickle my fancy.
Reds, if I’m at a wine bar, often Malbec or Cotes du Rhone, sometime Chianti.
Jameson, neat, with a beer chaser (Bass, if I’m at the dive bar that serves the biggest, cheapest glasses of Jameson in the city, as they have a very limited beer selection, all in bottles, most of it awful)
Hits from my dugout periodically, in between drinks.
