Today I decided that I had had enough with the inconsistencies of irc dcc for my music video needs so I decided to do an ftp search for a particular music video (Mars Volta live).

After some failed attempts at finding anything I came upon an ftp site that had been indexed by AMUN Public FTP Indexer. Though I couldn’t access this ftp, it was filled with quite possibly the best selection of music I have ever seen in one location. Immediately I decided that it would be my new life goal to find out how to login in to such a wonderful place. WS_FTP Pro was telling me that my password "unphased" was invalid, so I googled the ip.

Nothing came up for "xxxxxxxxx," but I used the "find this number within webpages" option that they give at the bottom of the page. It turns out that this ip was listed in a couple of russian forums, and the password for both of them was "unphased."

Just when I was about to give up, I noticed that the ip listed underneath the "xxxxxxxxx," also had the same login "freakscene," but its login was "kracked." I thought that was a rather unlikely coincidence, so I did a google search on "freakscene" and found this place.

The oddest thing is that although I have heard of the name "Dinosaur Jr." I have never heard their music and the same is with J. Mascis and the Fog. I do know, however, that the list of music here,
      http://www.freakscene.net/bbs/viewtopic … 8912#48912
is quite possibly the most beautful collection of music I have ever seen. Every last one of my favorite bands are represented there.

So my question is: How did I find such a place filled with people who have such awesome tastes in music? And how could I have not found this sooner? And how do I not know about Dinosaur Jr. if their fans like so many other great bands?

These questions are plaguing my mind. …and I never have been able to log on that ftp :( (at college I’m blocked from everything but irc and port 80 and 21)

Beats me. Have you by any chance been part of a secret government project, and thus removed from everything that is beautifull and mindblowingly great? If not, I am clueless. As for great bands, if you think any of the bands listed on that page are great, you will be blown away by dino.
As for not getting into blah’s ftp, I’m not sure. Maybe it’s temporarily down. Keep trying. Remember, patience will win. Allways. Except for when it comes to girls or alcohol. But that is perhaps another topic.
Welcome freakscene armstid! Get hold of some dino and prepare for the ride of your life.
Damn, I should get paid by ultimatum for my shameless promo-rantings!

hey armstid, very cool to read about how you found this site & why. Welcome here! :D

you can’t do wrong with Dinosaur Jr/ J Mascis :):):)
You can start with each record. Although the records are different, they’re all great. Maybe start with Dinosaur Jr "Where You Been". Maybe that’s the best one for starters.
But whatever you start with, give the record more than 1 listen, for some the magic reveals with repetition :-P  however, I’m very curious about what you think :)
