I agree completly.. During the Raiders/Patriots playoff game, I finally built my own system.. Athlon XP 1700+, DAMN.. sure beat the PPro200..
Another benefit to building your own is $$$ savings. Initially, you may need a case, A GOOD Power Supply, motherboard, processor, memory (depends on type of RAM), CASE AND PROCESSOR FANS (VERY IMPORTANT $30 investment)!!!!!. Thats it. You could use your exisiting video card, HDD, CD/DVD, CD-R/RW, etc.. and when you have enough free dough, buy what you need (want). I went to the local PC Club and got a case, 256 MB DDR2100 Memory, Processor, motherboard, and fans for about $400US. I used my OLD PCI Voodoo3 card until I could buy a GF2MX400 AGP (waiting to buy that Ti42 or 4400), added more space later, etc. etc.. Buying a new pre-manufactured system with what I wanted from any of the big three (Dell, CPQ, HP) at the time was over $2,000.
FWIW, (and living up to the Geek in Geeky Tech Chat!! )
