Uncle Tupelo was deffinitely into Dino Jr.,I read something in a book a few months ago about Jeff Tweedy mentioning his fav albums,Bug was one of them.
Glad to hear J likes Son Volt,great band.August 9, 2001 at 8:24 pm #53324Hey Deepsludge,
Eater is a very cool punk band from the early days in England…very raw, very young…I think the first drummer was 14…Dee Generate. He was tutored by Rat Scabies of The Damned. I think they only released one full album…called The Album, bunch of singles and a live EP called Get Your Yo Yo’s out. They had this gimmick, well at least they thought it was a gimmick, turned the bass up on the guitar and turned the treble up on the bass(?). Probably can find some songs on your fav download site…Thinking about the USA is a good one.

August 9, 2001 at 8:53 pm #53325Hey Deepsludge,
Yeah I definitely hear some 60’s R & B, actually meant to put 60’s sounds instead of just Stones. Chuck Berry is another sound I hear in some of J’s tunes…even the new one See It As Always. Inside info, well freakscene is a pretty cool place for that kind of thing
A lot of threads to go thru but the info is Out There. Allison
August 9, 2001 at 10:15 pm #53326J is into Sandy Denny?that`s cool.
Sandy Denny was in Fairport Convention back in the 60`s,and left after a few years and did some solo records;she had quite a good voice, she died back in the 70`s after a fall over stairs.A folk singer type, kind of a british Joni Mitchell.
Richard Thompson was also in Fairport Convention so it`s not that surprising that J likes Sandy Denny.
Cool to know what J likes, thanks for that Deepsludge.
Oh yeah-Wire-Pink Flag is great,Yo la Tengo covered one of their tunes a few years ago, very cool.August 10, 2001 at 4:00 pm #53327Yeah,J said in a interview that he used to listen to the Beach Boys.
Thank you Deepsludge for the Farrar solo album mention as well,I`m going to check that out.
Have you ever listened to Richard Buckner?,he`s kinda similar to Farrar.
The Handsome Family are great as well.August 15, 2001 at 12:55 am #53328Lou Barlow did it all..DinoJr is probably kicking themselves for doing what they did..lou has to be one of the best singer song writers of all time and they hi him with a guitar
August 15, 2001 at 1:58 am #53329Hey,
I agree Lou was a big part in the first couple of releases, although I still cannot listen to Poledo or Don’t But there is a whole lot more to the Dinosaur Jr and J Mascis catalogue than the first couple…including the amazing Green Mind and too many more to list.
I am sure all parties in that split have some regrets, although it sounds like things have cooled out a bit regarding that initial feud.

ps what do you mean by hi him with a guitar…just curious August 15, 2001 at 3:23 pm #53330Hit him with a guitar..sorry typo..J hit lou over the head with his guitar during one of the shows cause lou messed up a little..so he clocked him over the head
August 15, 2001 at 3:33 pm #53331Hey Sebadoh,
I thought thats what you meant but wasn’t sure, thanks for clarifying that. Like I said pretty sure everybody has regrets from that situation…Dino/Lou split…and it really does sound like things have cooled out a bit. Always hard being a fan on the outside to really understand the dynamics of whats happening inside a band. Good news is they all moved on and continued to make music so thats a pretty cool outcome in my opinion.
Welcome to the boards,
Allison
August 15, 2001 at 3:40 pm #53332Ty for the welcome..yeah its hard to look from the outside…i personally am glad the lou left..if he stayed i would not be jamming out to kick ass sebby songs..its funny but when you listen to sebadoh then listen to some early Dino Jr you can realy hear lou’s influence in there
August 15, 2001 at 3:52 pm #53333Hey Sebadoh,
Good point about the careers post dino/lou…lots of good stuff from both of them.
Hope you have checked out the live video part of the site, some great videos of Dino Jr from the early days…with Lou. Think its a live practice type deal…very pleasing Allison
