Rosa dear, with all due respect, I’ve decided to not give a damn if you get offended anymore. You seem to spend entirely too much time being offended at every little topic that breaches on your feminist/goth agenda (I’m sorry, did I label something?). People will label, it’s the only way to understand things. These labels aren’t set in stone, Nobody here is saying every guided by voices fan is annoying, only that many have gotten on their nerves. Nobody is ever going to permenantly divide up the world into seperate groups.
I digress, however. The point I was aiming for was this: If you spend your life getting Riled at everything, you will (A) have a difficult time being taken seriously and (B) not have enough time to be happy. I still respect you, but you have to realize that your last post was both hypicritical and ridiculous. Now, goodbye, and try to have a nice day

quote:
People will label, it’s the only way to understand things.

Wrong. Understanding is a result of conversation and introspection, and it it requires a large investment of time, patience, and respect. Labelling is a tool used by weak people who cannot or will not acknowledge that people are wonderfully complex and contradictory creatures. By summing someone up in one word, you gravely underestimate her humanity, and you WILL get in trouble.

quote:
You seem to spend entirely too much time being offended at every little topic that breaches on your feminist/goth agenda

I don’t think it’s fair of you to accuse me of having an "agenda" simply because I enjoy discussion and debate. It’s called having a point of view. I’m not even going to acknowledge the "feminist/goth" comment because it’s completely ridiculous. If you want to create a profile on me, I suggest you get better acquainted first. You know nothing of my interests or perspectives outside of the limited interests in music and sociology that I have expressed on this bbs.

quote:
If you spend your life getting Riled at everything, you will (A) have a difficult time being taken seriously and (B) not have enough time to be happy.

I don’t get "riled" at everything. Again, this shows how little you know about me and my life. You are making a flippant assessment based on the fact that we disagree about things. If I am offended, I am going to speak up, especially if I feel I can use the opportunity in a positive way (i.e. to better express myself, to show people a different perspective, to open up lines of communication). Please do not advise me on ways to "be happy" or "be taken seriously". You are not my therapist. You are not even a real-life friend.
You have your opinions, I have mine. We both have a right to express them. If I get upset, oh well. You can just ignore it.

April 20, 2002 at 6:09 pm #69323Rosa, shut the fuck up. You’re the second biggest moron on this place behind myself.

quote:
You have your opinions, I have mine. We both have a right to express them. If I get upset, oh well. Everyone wants to talk about a right to post whatever, but what they really mean is: "I want to control everything, and my opinion should eb a gold standard."
God damn idiot.

April 20, 2002 at 6:37 pm #69324Wow, Jaron called me an idiot. I’m flattered.
Hey, I realize I asked for a lot of the heat I’ve received on this thread. I’m quite aware that everyone think’s I’m a hypocrite for getting upset, then telling others not to get upset. But actually, I don’t care if people get irate, so long as they choose to assemble intelligent arguments instead of resorting to personal attacks and name-calling. What I should have said in my last post was, "just ignore it, unless you can provide a reasonable counterattack".
And just to clarify, my original post was not directed at ALL mascis fans. Note the clever usage of the word "some".
In any case, I’m taking a break from freakscene for a while. Don’t applaud, just throw money. I need to step back for a bit & reevaluate my means of contributing to this community. As much as I enjoy some good heated discourse, I feel like certain people choose to see only that side of my personality. I have made equal contributions to threads that are more lighthearted, relaxed, and friendly in nature, yet so much of that gets pushed aside whenever someone wants to fight.
If I’ve offended, stepped on toes, frightened, irritated; I apologize. But I stick by my opinions.
Rosa, who shaves her legs and wears yellow
April 20, 2002 at 6:43 pm #69325On the other board I frequent, we have an entire forum dedicated to personal attacks, name calling, malicious bitterness and other such nonsense. We call it "Drama: the stoopidest forum ever created."
We could do that here, but it’d have a grand total of 4 topics in it.

Wish someone’d told me we were supposed to contribute, Id’ve whipped up a batch of my famous no-meat five-alarm chili
Rosa dear, I’ve never meant to directly offend you, except to establish a point. Sorta. . . It wasn’t an insult, it was illustration.
You do give a damn about what this 19 year old "insecure, impulsive teenager with underdeveloped opinions and limited life experience " said, you took the time to respond.

April 20, 2002 at 7:30 pm #69327I could be wrong, but I think the questioned posed as the name of this thread has been answered. Now, I propose this thread get locked up before more damage is done. I apologize for my contribution to this mess.
April 20, 2002 at 7:46 pm #69328Hey!
Am I sensing an all FreakScene Deathmatch 2002…I know who my money would be on
Jaron we don’t have one of those name calling threads here for a reason…wonder what it is, oh yeah, people can usually resolve to agree to disagree without getting into pointless judgements based on limited info.
Malcom I would have been offended by your characterization as well ( and yes I am talking about the feminist/goth label)….actually, double that with the drama tag.
Interesting thing is Rosa kinda flipped this thread, we were all dissing fans of other bands and she put it back on us by using some of the same generalizations we all used to talk about Mascis fans….hmmm how did it feel
So everyone please take a step back, all opinions are encouraged and debate is great and all but YIKES not worth losing valued members over!!!
We obviously come from many different places opinion wise…which usually makes for interesting conversation/exchange of ideas. That said I just can’t be rational about football or hair bands…not sure why but Hey! But I remember another profile of Mascis fans…generalizations suck and are usually very limiting…generally
average male mascis fan…2nd paragraph
So everyone back to their corners and agree to disagree

April 20, 2002 at 8:00 pm #69329Yeah calling her Goth bit might’ve been to far.
It isn’t that she insulted J Mascis fans, If you look it’s because she insulted J Mascis fans in the same breath as she damned all forms of labeling.
April 20, 2002 at 8:26 pm #69330Hey Malcom,
It’s not about being right, its about agreeing to disagree and moving on with the community/friendships we have intact At least thats what I’m hoping for.

…thus ends the one and only contribution of den Buck in this rather lively thread…..

April 22, 2002 at 1:57 pm #69333Christ on a fucking bike! Friday my server was down at work, today we had a power cut, I check out the boards, and we are divided in camps.
Let’s all be friends again? Sorry if I contributed to your outburst Rosa – hope you come back soon. Forgot you were a gnr fan. Was merely writing in jest. Did you have that belt buckle though
