I was driving home listening to the new Fu Manchu album, and thought they would be a great band to open for the Dinosaur jr reunion.

Anybody know who the opening act will be?

      Thanks,
      Tom

p.s. Not that it matters, I’m going to as many shows as I can regardless of who opens, but it would be nice to have a decent opening band.

As for the east coast dates, KOALA will be the opening band – KOALA is Jason Loewenstein’s band and are the perfect addition to the line-up (simply said: THEY WILL KICK YR A$$ :D ) Remember, Jason is the guy from Sebadoh… and one of the biggest Dinosaur fans on the planet ! Must be really amazing for him to open for Dinosaur…

            Oh please, NOOOOOOOO

I’ve seen quite enough Evan on DKT-MC5 not to mention his solo tour (where I think I also saw J playing with CV, and J was better than Evan that night although Juliana was guesting great and pretty much saved that show). As for Mudhoney, if they play before Dino I will have NO hearing left by the time Dino comes on, and if I’m gonna go deaf I wanna go deaf on Dino!

I’m happy with Loewenstein, always wanted to see him because of that song "Jason Lowenstein’s a Wanker" but never got around to it

I heard the band Alaska wants in on some of the shows. 2 of them were in Sebadoh at some point.

That would rock. I loved their first album. Haven’t heard the new one yet.

I saw Nebula open for the Fog in 2000 (I think it was a one-off double-bill) at the Bowery Ballroom — I’d love to see them do a full tour together. Haven’t heard the latest Fu Manchu, but I’ve always been of the opinion that Eddie Glass did the right thing in leaving them to start Nebula.

I’ve seen Alaska! opening for the New Folk Implosion (Lou Barlow’s former band) in 2003, and after Alaska’s set, two members turned out to be also members of NFI (Imaad Wasif and Russell Pollard) :)
I liked Alaska’s set, it was full of energy and the songs were fine.

I’d say that’s highly doubtful. Lou isn’t too friendly w/ Russ anymore and rightfully so. He’s a world-class prick. Imaad, on the other hand, is a great guy.

king, eddie glass and ruben romano made the best decision ever (maybe not for fu manchu, who still rock in my opinion, but they lost any kinda psychedelic sound when eddie left, but brant bjork replaced rueben, and did a great job). nebula is so much better than fu manchu, i was also at that J & the fog show at the bowery ballroom where nebula opened. it was my first time seeing the fog, and i had no idea who nebula was, exept for 1 song my buddy gave me on a mix. well, that song was "elevation" , so i knew they were gonna kick ass, and i wasnt disappointed. since that day, nebula has been one of my fav current bands, and i cathc them whenever i can!!

also, i thought i read on these boards that jason loewenstein’s new band Koala were opening the east coast dates for dino, which is awesome. i hope he plays some of the songs of his solo album "At SIxes and Sevens", which was awesome

Same here — I hadn’t heard them either (except for some on-line snippets), and came away a big Nebula fan, too.

huh i didn’t know nebula were in the Fog Axis. I saw them because cobra verde was opening for ’em. I enjoyed nebula very much too.
