Because, with songs as Great as J’s, they aint even LISTENING and they annoy people who wanna get real close and move/dance/party (maybe even close their eyes at times and let the majesty of the music sink into their souls)………without WORRYING THAT THEYRE GONNA GET KICKED IN THE FACE!yeah i was pretty stoked that no mosh pits broke out in atlanta. i never understood the mosh pit, maybe someone can enlighten us?
i like the movement, i dislike the people who run and ram you in the back.. they can have my elbow in the face, but i do like to rock out headbang and move around a bit.. jsut my take. if nobodys moshing though i just stand and rock out.
move, dance, and party? im talkin about a mosh pit, not a phish show. and im not too sure i understand that either.
I completely agree with this! I saw Dino at the House of Blues in FL and was constantly distracted because I kept having to protect my girlfriend from getting slammed by the dumbasses in front of us. It’s also annoying to have people asking you if they can borrow a lighter when you’re trying to watch a show. It’s fine to headbang or jump up and down or whatever, but no one should have to back away from the stage just because some idiots want to fightdance. Just enjoy the music!
here is my old stylee perspective-i was around for the early punk bands of the 70s and 80s and since most stories about early DINOSAUR speak of the ‘hardcore and post-hardcore world’…that world of BlackFlag-MinorThreat-Avengers-Crime-the Minutemen and even bands like X-all these bands shows had mercenary type slammin and moshing.
it was really physically dangerous to be at these shows…
it had that testosterone-hormonee-excess energy that the music was only a part of…
i havent been to the new tour yet-so i dont know if these moshers are for real or they’ve seen video and are just emulating something they saw…
i dont care what people do at shows-its all part of the deal…’ya pays yer money-ya takes yer chances’
i dont think people are leaving w/ broken bones and blood everywhere like the old days. i’ve seen it all and i know the band members of DINOSAUR have too…

I agree, although, I had a great time at the last J and Fog show, there was no moshing until the last few songs, I sort of moved out of the way. Then suddenly from behind me came two people who rammed into me and knocked me into a third, I looked up and saw the parents of a child from my classroom, and they had rammed me into another teacher from my school (that I had brought with me) although their hits were hard they were not hard enough to hurt me, they had sweet smiles and we all ended up laughing
together. Now when I see one of these two, like in the grocery store or Kinko’s, I surprise them by running real hard into them.
Still I just don’t get it.
I was a little annoyed with the moshers in Boston just because the pit opened up right where I was standing so I got moved back a ways from the stage. I like that people are into it but I found it really hard to focus on the band during a couple of songs because I had to make sure I wasn’t going to get an elbow in the face or something. Very distracting but sort of cool at the same time.
As an old guy of 40 on the subject, I have to say that it annoys me, but I slammed (as we called it) at hardcore shows in ’82 to around ’85, so it doesn’t bother me. I just move away. When the bands first started, people slammed at shows like Dino, Buttholes, Jesus Lizard, Cows, Pavement, etc. It was a little weird to me, but the music is HARD, and it’s no less ridiculous than somebody "crowd surfing" at a Dave Matthews Band show. Once hardcore and metal "crossed over" around ’85 and slamming became moshing, I was done. From what I’ve seen, they aren’t slamming, moshing or anything like it anymore. It looks like a bunch of spastic kickboxers trying to elbow each other in the face. That’s a long way from picking up the guy that fell down next to you.
