Really good show tonight. Opened with Tarpit, No Bones was the third or fourth song, Crumble got an airing. The band was focused, tight, and energetic, though Lou remarked a couple of times how long they’d been on the road. I thought it was only half as loud as it should have been (The Wiltern is a pretty muddy room), yet my ears are a bit muffled and ringing even though I had earplugs in, so I guess it was loud enough. For Mountain Man (the last song) J played a reverse Flying V, the likes of which I’ve never seen before. It sounded ferocious. And Pick Me Up sounded much much better than it did at the Irving Plaza shows at the start of the tour. A nice note to wrap things up on, I’d say. And some kind people in my vicinity smoked me up without my prompting, which was a very fine intro to show-going in the L.A. area.
Bonus: no Almost Ready. I LOVE the song on the album, but live it’s just pants. Maybe they’ve reached the same conclusion.
September 9, 2007 at 3:17 am #131773So my buddy and I get in line to buy tickets at the door and some people come out of nowhere and hand us some free tickets. They must have been some Camel cigarette employees or something. Great start to an amazing night. I didn’t put my earplugs in until after the third song and I’m paying for it now. Once you hear J’s guitar roar without earplugs, it’s hard to force yourself to put them in. The band sounded really great tonight. Pick Me Up was just sick and was definitely my highlight of the night.
September 9, 2007 at 9:40 am #131774I saw the guitar in 2005 at a festival. On the side of the stage there was a rack with guitars. The only one I could see was the Flying V, and I was never sure if it was Dino’s gear or not. Sound like an awesome show, especially the Flying V happening.

Yup, that’s the one. It sounded fantastic, however ridiculous it looks.

September 10, 2007 at 3:42 pm #131779The show was cool, I wish they played the lung, or it’s me but what can you do. I didn’t like the setup there though. You needed to be one of the first 200 people to get a wrist band to go in front of the stage. I ran into the guy who runs TeePee Records and he said they are going to start recording the new witch album soon, and it should be out by March. He seemed to think Dino was going to be done. But Murph and I think Bart had hinted at some more shows in November so we will see.
