…this topic is prompted by the band that opened for Metric i saw the other day, they were called Crystal Castles. They were a guy and a girl, a laptop computer or other electronic gear and three strobe lights. The girl danced around with a flashlight as the guy pumped generic techno through the clubs pa system. I like techno to some degree and the music they produced i might even call good, but the presentation was so wrong. The three strobe lights were right in front of the band if that is what they call themselves and the lights were rediculously bright and blinding and remained unchanged for their 40 minute set. It was unbareable to look at the stage. I listened with my back turned for a while before retreating to the lobby to get sain before Metric. My only hope is that they were just being mean to all the kids that scrambled to get down fornt early for metric and decided to put them through hell just to be mean which is funny but still, 40 minutes of strobe lights in your grill isn’t a live show, it is torture and that puts Crystal Castles on the top of my worst live show i’ve ever scene, others to make the list followed by why i was even there…
Pop will eat itself – they opened for Nine Inch Nails many moons ago (1995)
Hole – at lollapalossa late 90’s, luckily court got mad and left the stage after three songsSeptember 25, 2007 at 10:16 pm #132082Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Followed closely by Magik Markers
Pure rubbish.
September 26, 2007 at 5:06 am #132083Probably too many bands would be my answer but….I did see an opening band recently that was terrible. I was thinking it was just a joke but three songs in, the dark truth sank in. They did a cover of Steely Dans "I’m a fool to do your dirty work" that was so horrible…I mean the song’s not good to begin with…..it was torture.
I think the Magik Markers have a future, I would like to see them go on and help out in the Juvenile Justice system. Rather than pick up trash on the side of the road, I think young offenders should be forced to sit and listen to two hours of the Markers.
With national recidivism rates dropping, I would be some sort of hero for coming up with the plan. I would go on to receive a
Nobel prize,be featured on Anderson Coopers show, meet with President Obama. The Markers would have a steady source of income producing and distributing their two hours pieces around the country. It’s a win/win for everyone involved.September 26, 2007 at 5:11 am #132084On second thought, parents would view the punishment as too harsh, cruel and unusual.
I’ll just have to place that along with the Salsa Suicide line in my pile of useless ideas.September 26, 2007 at 5:19 am #132085linkin park… nuff said.

Although I don’t know if they count as a "band" since there were no "instruments."The worst instrument-playing band was this John Cale (ex-Velvet Underground) outfit I saw in college– truly terrible. Grouchy, off key, etc.

They are absolutely one of the best bands on CD, but horrible live. I have seen them on multiple occasions and Doug Martsch when he was touring by himself. It is the only time I have left a concert early (twice).
I love the band, but will pass next time they come to town.
October 19, 2007 at 2:00 pm #132088Wow, I totally disagree about Built to Spill.
I’ve seen them twice, and they were really good.
The only lame thing is the crowd at their shows sucks.
But they are good live. What would you want them to change?
BTW, worst
liveband = the blood brothersOctober 19, 2007 at 3:33 pm #132089godflesh. He sing like rat and hypnotizes. I saw them in Sheffield UK in 1992 and failed my GNVQ miserably.
October 19, 2007 at 3:36 pm #132090lol, well, ive only been to Dino, and I went to a Ted Nugent concert when I was 11, and having no interest in Ted…then OR now….yea….Nuge sucked.
October 20, 2007 at 12:11 am #132091I too think Built to Spill are awesome live. . They’ve always sounded great everytime I’ve seen them. Play songs from every album, and always seem to throw in a cool cover song.
I did just see the Smashing Pumpkins recently, and it was a total waste of time. They sounded incredible, but blinded me with their lame ass laser show. I’ve never wanted to leave a show so bad in my life.

i saw this band shiny toy guns with a friend of mine a while back, and they had a blinding light/laser show. all i have to say is that they werent the best band ive seen live. i went for the sounds who were coheadlining with stg.
October 24, 2007 at 10:39 am #132093im usually in a pretty good mood at most shows..ahem..but i do remember going to family values back in like 97 and hating most of the bands playing – incubus and limp biscuits and a couple others i cant even remember
October 24, 2007 at 3:15 pm #132094well it is really a whole show of shitty bands. iam not even remotely into this new version of "metal". but my good friend had tickets to a metal gig and i didn’t want to just leave him to go alone so i went with and it was fucking terrible.
there was a little known metal group called "the confession" or some shit. then "sky" and then "avenged sevenfold".
it was all terrible. just some ass who screams the lyrics at the top of their lungs and a drummer who can only use the double bass pedal, a guitar player doing the same solo every time, and a bass player that iam not even sure is really playing their bass.
thats how every single one of the bands were, terrible.i also saw van halen when it was van hagar and sammy hagar is nothing like david lee roth. iam not a huge fan but i can appreciate some of their classics. plus their kinda funny.
October 25, 2007 at 3:00 pm #132095Seen so so many bad bands it’s not even funny….recently I’d say Reverend & The Makers were pretty awful (luckily I didn’t pay to see them). Likewise this dude called Peter Poehl supporting New Pornographers… terrible.
Going back many many many years into the dim and distant past… the Telescopes supporting the Cranes was pretty awful.
