from uncut, I don’t agree with everything there but what are you gonna do…
Quote:Beyond! We’re often a bit sceptical about reunions, so when the new Dinosaur Jr album turned up at the end of last week, I guess many of us at Uncut feared the worst.
"Beyond", we figured, might be a fairly cynical exigency: something to ensure Mascis, Barlow and Murph could have another lucrative season on the festival circuit after their jaunt in 2005.
But "Beyond" is actually very good indeed, not least because it seems to start up right where this Dinosaur line-up left off, at the end of 1988’s "Bug". All the classic ingredients are in place: that weird mix of hardcore speed and classic rock lethargy; dopey shrugs in lieu of lyrics (has anyone written more unmemorable song titles than J Mascis?); some absolutely shredding solos.
Best of all, there’s an amazing Lou Barlow song here called "Back To Your Heart". Since the trio split up in ’88, Barlow’s work fronting Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion proved that he was a much better songwriter than Mascis. But "Back To Your Heart" is a tantalising glimpse of what might have been, had Barlow’s tremulous confessionals been backed up by the pure slob energy of Mascis’ guitar playing. Kind of sad, in a way.

Steady on, Lou Barlow a better songwriter than J Mascis? As Homer Simpson never said: "Seba-Doh!" Still, looking forward to hearing this, you lucky bleeder.

Quite. J kept his head down and chose not make a whole bunch of anaemic indie pop.

"hot_burrito " wrote:This is a great point. It is the label’s responsibility to ensure the album doesn’t get leaked early. It CAN be done. This is why Fat Possum needs to step up and do something significant about the early leak. Telling the kind folks at Oink to take it down (which they did) is too little too late. Once the leak has hit the internet it’s over and there is NO control AND there shouldn’t be any control. I suggest partnering w/iTunes and making it available via download. You don’t have to wait for CD artwork to print or vinyl to press. The quicker labels embrace technology the better they will be. Wake up Fat Possum and be a pioneer.Side note: Andrew Bird’s new album "Armchair Apocrypha" has a release date of mid-March. I’ve had an excellent quality rip for almost three weeks now. Guess who the label is? Fat Possum!
I just don’t get this…
Quote:Once the leak has hit the internet it’s over and there is NO control AND there shouldn’t be any control..please explain that rationale to me.
I don’t think release dates are just arbitrarily assigned, would assume that they include numerous things like promo, setting up interviews, tour dates, listening parties and no doubt a lot more. Once a leak happens a label & band management should just throw all that planning out and release it on itunes…just because the disc leaked the band/label control of the music should just evaporate?
Riptide & Lets Go To Church were included as a bonus cd single with the German release of More Light
Too Hard & Stories & Jet Plane on Pony Canyon, as far as buying don’t know off hand, no doubt someone can help you out with finding a place to buy it…anyone

don’t forget there are some singles coming out, remember the bonus disc that came with More Light with the songs Lets Go To Church, Too Hard & Riptide Swim Sideways…totally different than anything J’s done before

but remember, what we’ve heard may not be the final mix/finished product…
guess its cool, I’ll just move it from this forum to the album forum…
ROCKET From The Crypt-Scream, Dracula, Scream!
forgot to post this here as well…

"Robert " wrote:I probably has, because I don’t see it. At least not the same difference as you point out, feel free to explain it to this ignoramus
The only difference I see is that:Before it’s released you have no means of buying the album, and so I can understand fans that can’t resist downloading it, so they can hear it immediately, and then buy it when it’s released.
After the album is released the fans can buy the album, and at this stage there’s really no ‘legit,’ reason to merely download it instead of purchasing it.
That’s why I think that the people who download the album now should preorder the record from Fat Possum.
think I explained it enough in my first post, maybe you need to shake all that amusement out of you head first

of course it could just be an alien plot to get some buzz going on Dino, lots of people loving the disc out there.
Matt Dillon was great, definitely a fun time, the film maker from Kitchen Stories does another great job!
